AFTER NIGHT NUMBER THREE, SAMMY SWINDELL TAKES THE LEAD IN THE COX DESIGN & METAL FABRICATION IOWA SPEEDWEEK

KNOXVILLE, IOWA  (August 7, 2010)  -  With a pair of top finishes in the Arnold Motor Supply 360 Knoxville Nationals and the Casey’s General Stores winged 410-cubic-inch sprint car feature on Saturday night at Knoxville Raceway, Sammy Swindell of Tennessee is the new leader in the Cox Design & Metal Fabrication Iowa SpeedWeek point standings.  Saturday was night three of the ten-night series of sprint car races in south central Iowa.  Night number four is the United States Auto Club (USAC)-sanctioned, Iowa Speedway-sponsored Non-Winged Knoxville Nationals, along with the winged 305-cubic-inch sprint cars, to be held on Sunday evening at the half-mile Knoxville Raceway dirt track.  102 winged 360-cubic-inch sprint cars and 39 winged 410-cubic-inch sprint cars competed over the past three nights.

The unofficial top fifteen in the 2010 Cox Design Iowa Speedweek points after three nights are as follows:  1., Sammy Swindell, 144 points; 2., Bronson Maeschen, 134 points; 3., Johnny Herrera & Jamie Veal, 127 points (tied); 5., Brian Brown & Brooke Tatnell, 121 points (tied); 7., Randy Hannagan, 116 points; 8., Davey Heskin, 115 points; 9., Tim Kaeding, 104 points; 10., Shane Stewart, 100 points; 11., Dustin Selvage, 96 points; 12., Jason Johnson, 95 points; 13., Danny Wood, 86 points; 14., Tony Bruce, Jr., & Brandon “Bud” Kaeding, 85 points.

The Cox Design & Metal Fabrication Iowa Speedweek includes ten straight nights of sprint car racing between Knoxville Raceway and the Southern Iowa Speedway.  The top three places pay $2,500, $1,000, and $500, respectively, with the winner declared the Jesse Hockett “Mr. Sprint Car” titlist.  Past “Mr. Sprint Car” titlists include Ricky Logan (2002) of Arkansas, Shane Stewart (2003, ’04) of Oklahoma, Billy Alley (2005) of Nebraska, Jason Johnson (2006) of Louisiana, Wayne Johnson (2007, ‘08) of Oklahoma, and Terry McCarl (2009) of Iowa.
