AFTER NIGHT TWO, LEE GROSZ AND SAMMY SWINDELL TIED FOR
THE LEAD IN THE COX DESIGN IOWA SPEED WEEK POINTS
KNOXVILLE, IOWA (August 5, 2011) - With wins in the preliminary mains on
the opening night of the Arnold Motor Supply 360-cubic-inch Knoxville
Nationals on Thursday at Knoxville Raceway, Lee Grosz of North Dakota
and defending Jesse Hockett “Mr. Sprint Car” titlist Sammy Swindell of
Tennessee are the early leaders in the 2011 Cox Design & Metal
Fabrication Iowa Speed Week point standings. Friday was night two of the
ten-night series of sprint car races in south central Iowa. Night number
three is the finale of the Arnold Motor Supply 360 Knoxville Nationals
and an All Star Circuit of Champions (ASCoC) 410-cubic-inch sprint car
program.
The unofficial top sixteen in the 2011 Cox Design Iowa Speed Week points
after two nights is as follows: 1., Lee Grosz, Sammy Swindell, 50 points
(tied); 3., Davey Heskin, Wayne Johnson, 49 points (tied); 5., Jason
Johnson, Shane Stewart, 48 points (tied); 7., Jeff Swindell, Randy
Hannagan, 47 points (tied); 9., Billy Alley, Ryan Anderson, 46 points
(tied); 11., Derek Hagar, Justin Carver, 45 points (tied); 13., Dustin
Selvage, David Gravel, 44 points (tied); 15., Sam Hafertepe, Jr., Tim
Shaffer, 43 points (tied).
The Cox Design & Metal Fabrication Iowa Speedweek includes ten straight
nights of sprint car racing between Knoxville Raceway and the Southern
Iowa Speedway. The top three places pay $2,500, $1,000, and $500,
respectively, with the winner declared the Jesse Hockett “Mr. Sprint
Car” titlist. Past “Mr. Sprint Car” titlists include Ricky Logan (2002)
of Arkansas, Shane Stewart (2003, ’04) of Oklahoma, Billy Alley (2005)
of Nebraska, Jason Johnson (2006) of Louisiana, Wayne Johnson (2007,
‘08) of Oklahoma, Terry McCarl (2009) of Iowa, and Sammy Swindell (2010)
