O’Reilly WOW Memorial Day Classic heads to Lee County Speedway By Jake Croxton DONNELLSON, IA (May 19, 2008) – The O’Reilly Auto Parts Winged Outlaw Warriors 360 Sprint Car touring series is set to descend on the Lee County Speedway for a $1,200 to win 25-lap war during Lee County Bank & Trust Night at the Races. The Friday, May 23, Memorial Day Classic will feature the 360 Sprint Cars for the first of two appearances in 2008, this one ahead of the June 18 NASCAR Night featuring J. J. Yeley. Several of the WOW regulars will be making their first appearance at the 3/8-mile fairgrounds oval. Thus far, 74 different drivers have participated in the four events held in 2008. And to this point, outsiders have taken all four checkered flags. USAC star Jesse Hockett and all-time runner-up for series wins Brian Brown have taken WOW-sanctioned checkered flags, while Louisiana’s Jason Johnson and Oklahoma’s Aaron Berryhill topped ASCS co-sanctioned events. However, more of the same continues at the top of the WOW standings as 3-time, defending champion Randy Martin leads the way over young-guns Jonathan Cornell, Austin Alumbaugh, J Kinder, and Curtis Evans. For any non-WOW-member 360 Sprint Car competitors looking to attend, the series has waived its $125 registration fee. Drivers will only have to pay a $25 pit pass and a $10 draw fee to compete. Proceeds from the draw fee go to the travelling WOW Safety Team. Non-member competitors will not be eligible for any WOW contingency or points funds. All competitors must run a Hoosier SC25 right rear tire. For more information on WOW rules and regulations, consult wowsprints.homestead.com or call Archie Simpson at (573) 443-2530. Grandstand admission is $12 for Adults (18-59), $10 for Seniors (60+), $7 for Students (11-17), and Free for Kids (10 and under). Gates open at 5:30, Hot Laps push off at 7pm, and racing will follow at 7:30. Also on the card will be the Miller Lite IMCA Modifieds, Budweiser IMCA Stock Cars, and Donnellson Tire Hobby Stocks. The Shottenkirk Parts Express Wild Things will run a feature-ONLY format, while the Lawson Racing Engines and Parts Supply SportsMods will take the week off. Congratulations to Calvin Meyer of Macomb, Ill., and Hila Cook of Keokuk. They tied with 208 points to win this week’s version of Fantasy Racing. Dakota Lynch holds a 4-point lead over Cook and Darren Eid for the chase for a 2009 Grandstand Pass. For more information, visit www.leecountyspeedway.com on the Internet. |
