Candy Dash, Hobby Stock bounty highlights Farmers & Merchants Mutual Telephone Company Night at Lee County Speedway
By Jake Croxton

DONNELLSON, Ia (June 3) – The IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing program continues at the Lee County Speedway on Friday, June 6, during Farmers & Merchants Mutual Telephone Company Night at the Races.

All five weekly classes return to the forefront of the activities, including a bounty for the Donnellson Tire Hobby Stocks.

Weikert Iron and Metal is sponsoring a School’s Out Candy Dash for the TA Auto & Tire Junior Fan Club members. SportMod driver Chad Sovern also donated his last week’s race check toward the purchase of candy and materials.

It is no secret that Montrose’s Dean Kratzer’s early-season run is one for the record books. Kratzer, and his Lawson Racing Engines / Jean Kratzer Avon / Buick, is undefeated through four feature events in Donnellson Tire Hobby Stock competition. Thus far, $120 ($345 to win) is loaded on top of the purse to any driver that can defeat Kratzer, if and only if he finishes the feature. Kratzer leads the standings by 6 over former track titlist Jeff Soper of Kahoka, MO.

Also on the schedule for Hobby Stock competitors is a Rookie Rally. All competitors that have never won a feature or a Rookie Rally are eligible to compete for Performance Bodies product certificates and a trophy.

Burlington’s Bill Roberts currently holds a five-point lead over Dean McGee in the Miller Lite IMCA Modified standings. McGee and third-place Josh Foster are the only drivers to find victory lane so far in 2008.

Mt. Pleasant’s Jason Cook holds a three-point advantage over both John Oliver, Jr. and Jeff Mueller in the ultra-competitive Budweiser IMCA Stock Car division. Keokuk’s Jim Gillenwater leads Phillip Cossel by 8 points in the Lawson Racing Engines and Parts Supply SportMods. Rob Hammel leads Chuck Fullenkamp by 11 points in Shottenkirk Parts Express Wild Thing competition.

Cindy Cook and Bert Pagel tied for the weekly win in Fantasy Racing on May 30. Cook and Bill Knisley are tied in the overall standings, as just four points separate the top 5.

All gates open at 5:30 for the 5-class show. Hot laps are scheduled for 7pm with racing to follow at 7:30.
Grandstand general admission $8 for Adults, $7 for Seniors, $5 for Students 11-17, and Free for Kids 10 and under. Pit passes are $20.
