IMCA Late Models try again at LCS By Jake Croxton DONNELLSON, IA (July 15) – The Ideal Ready Mix IMCA Late Models will make their third stop of the season at the Lee County Speedway during the IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing program during Big River Rental Night at the Races. Mother Nature has spoiled their appearance twice already in 2008, prompting rain dates on August 15 and August 22. Jason Frankel continues to lead the point standings after two events. Frankel and Jay Johnson have taken checkered flags thus far in the 5-race mini-series. The Big River Rental-sponsored 25-lap Point Average event will pay $800 to win, with additional dollars provided by Taylor Massner and Nick & Kerri Wilkerson. The Shottenkirk Parts Express Wild Things will vie for $200 to win courtesy of Shelly Keltner while the Donnellson Tire Hobby Stocks will take the week off. Employees of Gregory Manufacturing and Veyance Technologies will also be on hand to witness the “Thunder in the Heartland” on Friday night. Galesburg, Illinois’ Dean McGee continues to lead the Miller Lite IMCA Modified standings but the gap is shrinking. Josh Foster is now just 5-points back after scoring his third win of 2008 a week ago. The Lawson Racing Engines and Parts Supply SportMods return after a couple week hiatus. Bert Pagel took a gamble on Nate Caruth during the Liberty Cup and his Fantasy Racing lead went up in smoke along with Caruth’s engine on the first lap. This week, it was Bill Knisley’s turn to have trouble and Pagel took the weekly victory and the overall lead. The 50-point swing now leaves Pagel with a 31-point advantage heading into the downhill half of the season. It will be Thirsty Friday on July 18, as all paid admissions receive their first drink free courtesy of Pepsi, Budweiser, and Miller Lite. Grandstand admission is $10 for Adults (18-59), $9 for Seniors (60+), $7 for Students (11-17), and Free for Kids (10 and under). Pit passes are $20. Pit gates open at 5:30, with Hot Laps at 7pm and the first race at 7:30.
