By Jake Croxton

DONNELLSON, IA (Aug. 11, 2008) – After a week lay-off, the Thunder in the Heartland returns to the Lee County Speedway as Jim Baier, Inc., 101.7 the Bull, and 107.3 the Mix present racing action at the 3/8-mile dirt track at the Lee County Fairgrounds.

Friday night marks the return of the Dukes of Hazard, including the second rendition of the popular “Daisy Duke look-a-like” competition. A crisp $100 bill awaits the winner with 4 or more contestants. A replica General Lee and Rosco P. Coletrain police cruiser will be on display throughout the evening.

The rain-beleaguered Ideal Ready Mix IMCA Late Models will make their third appearance of 2008. Current track points leader Jason Frankel of Quincy, Ill. finds himself engaged in a fierce battle atop the IMCA National Late Model standings. Frankel, who already owns a win in Donnellson in 2008, is hunting Des Moines’ Todd Cooney for the points lead.

The IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing program is down to three nights remaining for the weekend warriors and driver that wait to make their move in the standings will soon be out of luck. Jeff Mueller leads Jason Cook by six markers in the Budweiser IMCA Stock Car strife.

While the Stock Cars do not boast the single-closest points battle at the track, the Miller Lite IMCA Modified drivers will have to wait another week to settle the 6-point difference between leader Josh Foster and runner-up Dean McGee. With the Late Models on the card, the Modifieds will take the night off on August 15.

It will be Thirsty Friday on August 15, as all paid admissions receive their first drink free courtesy of Pepsi, Budweiser, and Miller Lite. Grandstand admission is $10 for Adults (18-59), $9 for Seniors (60+), $7 for Students (11-17), and Free for Kids (10 and under). Pit passes are $20. Pit gates open at 5:30, with Hot Laps at 7pm and the first race at 7:30.
