“The Pepsi
Inside Track” / Big River Rental Season Championships close out LCS points
season DONNELLSON, IA (August 26) – The 2008 Lee County Speedway points season will culminate with the annual running of the Season Championships, presented by KRNQ’s Pepsi Inside Track and Big River Rental. While three of the track titles are all but decided, two of season-long struggles will be decided on Friday night. The closest battle is a three-way struggle for the Miller Lite IMCA Modified track title. Entering Friday’s 20-lapper, Montrose’s Josh Foster holds a 2-point lead over both Burlington’s Bill Roberts and Galesburg, Ill.’s Dean McGee. Foster holds the edge in the tie-breaker with 4 race-wins to McGee’s 3 and Roberts’ 0. Foster is the only driver that controls his own destiny. A win would hand him his second straight title. If McGee wins, Foster needs to finish third or worse. If Roberts wins, Foster must finish fourth or worse. The Budweiser IMCA Stock Car points battle is a little simpler as New London’s Jeff Mueller holds a 4-point lead over Mt. Pleasant’s Jason Cook. Another former champion, Dave Hemsted of Lone Tree, is 14-points out. Mueller clinches the title with a finish of fifth or better in the final rundown. Middletown’s Dan Wenig needs a lot of help to try and wrestle away the Donnellson Tire Hobby Stock title from Montrose’s Dean Kratzer. The lead is 16, which means Wenig needs a 17-car field just to have an outside shot. Keokuk’s Jim Gillenwater and Hamilton, Ill.’s Rob Hammel will only have to take the green flag to wrap-up their respective titles in the Lawson Racing Engines and Parts Supply SportMods and the Shottenkirk Parts Express Wild Things. Friday will consist of a feature-only format with driver introductions and straight-up starts by season point standings. Immediately following competition, the mechanics and the ladies will have as shot to tackle the fairgrounds 3/8-mile. Following the Mechanics and Powder Puff races, all individuals with a pit pass will be treated to a pit barbecue. All Keokuk residents showing proof of residence will be admitted for just $5. Grandstand admission is $8 for Adults (18-59), $7 for Seniors (60+), $5 for Students (11-17), and Free for Kids (10 and under). Pit passes are $20. Pit gates open at 5:30, with Hot Laps at 7pm and the first race at 7:30. For more information, including year-end specials and the weekly podcast, visit www.leecountyspeedway.com.
