LOCAL COUPLE INVITED TO SPEAK DURING DAYTONA SPEEDWEEKS RPM PROMOTERS WORKSHOPS

DONNELLSON, IA (Feb 5, 2009) - The Thirty-Sixth Annual RPM Promoters Workshops Series, Speedweek National Workshop, produced by Racing Promotion Monthly will discuss how promoters can prosper during recessionary times by strengthening their weekly racing.  The 36-session Workshop will open with keynote remarks from H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler formerly of Lowe’s Motor Speedway, Monday morning, February 9, at the Orlando Marriott Lake Mary, Lake Mary, FL.

One of the sessions entitled, "No More Regular Shows," during the three-day Workshop will be presented by Lee County Speedway promoters Terry & Jenni Hoenig of Denmark, IA, discussing how they have refocused their efforts on weekly racing.  “We have had many successful touring series shows in Donnellson over our 12 years promoting the speedway,” explained Hoenig, “but during the last few seasons we have found that our fans were choosing to attend these “special races” and skipping some of our weekly shows in between.  Our goal recently,” Hoenig continued, “has been to make every race night a crowd pleasing special event in and of itself.”  The Hoenig’s presentation focuses on building a fun and exciting environment for race fans with events such as Dukes of Hazzard Night, Fiesta Night, Disco Night, a Christmas in July celebration, and a variety of children’s events for the Jr. Fan Club (kids club) throughout the year at the speedway.

“We placed emphasize on weekly racing because we saw too many tracks faced with a recessionary economy paying too little attention to their weekly show,” said Racing Promotion Monthly editor and Workshops Chairman Stewart Doty said.  Short tracks did very well in past recessions, but many promoters are too young to remember this, and to understand how to create a strong weekly show that will not only survive, but grow during a soft economy.”

The Hoenig’s will also we giving a presentation on group ticket sales during the workshop sessions.  Lee County Speedway has several opportunities for group or company outings at the speedway, along with discounted block ticket prices, and promotions designed specifically around groups attending the races.  These ideas and promotions will be shared with the audience followed up with a question/ answer session.  The Hoenig’s will be part of a two or three member panel of veteran promoters leading the discussions on the topic.

The 2009 Daytona meetings are the 97th produced by Racing Promotion Monthly since 1974.  More than 1400 track operators, their employees, and industry leaders attended last year’s Workshops.  Racing Promotion Monthly, the idea newsletter for auto racing promoters..
