Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods new to Friday programs at Lee County Speedway

DONNELLSON, Iowa (April 17) – Friday night race programs at Lee County Speedway will feature IMCA’s Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod division beginning this season.

Seventeen local track point races for the class are on the 2009 schedule at Donnellson, beginning with opening night April 24.  National and Smiley’s Racing Products State points will also be given for the July 2 Liberty Cup show.

A limited modified class that ran at Lee County averaged nearly 19 cars a night last year and promoter Terry Hoenig believes the IMCA sanction and generous local sponsor support could boost that number much higher.

“The SportMods are affordable and they’re a great entry level class of Modifieds. They’re close competition-wise and it’s hard for one or two drivers to dominate. I like that,” he said. “IMCA has got a great contingency award program and that helps drivers, too.”

Shottenkirk GM will add a $100 bonus each week to the highest finishing SportMod driver powered by a crate motor. That bonus will be doubled if the crate motor was purchased from the Fort Madison dealership.

Lee County also sanctions its Modified, Late Model and Stock Car divisions with IMCA. Final point races for all four classes will be Aug. 28. The Deery Brothers Summer Series comes to town on Saturday, Sept. 5.
