Drive for 5 starts now – Lee County Speedway ready for opener
By Jake Croxton – jakecroxton@yahoo.com

DONNELLSON, IA (April 21, 2009) – A long winter break comes to a conclusion as Pepsi presents the opening night of action at the Lee County Speedway, featuring the Pilot Grove Savings Bank / Ideal Ready Mix IMCA Late Model Drive for Five Series and the IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing program.

Season points battles start for the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA SportMods, and Hobby Stocks. Josh Foster, Jason Cook, Jim Gillenwater, and Dean Kratzer look to defend their respective titles.

The focus will be on the first round of the Drive for Five Series as the 11-race IMCA Late Model mini-series has drawn interest from some of the IMCA heavy hitters. Look for a strong field of cars, including at least three former IMCA National champions.

Quincy’s Jason Frankel and Mark Burgtorf will join Independence’s Curt Martin in search of the $1,000 payday. Other registered drivers include defending track champ Jay Johnson, Boone McLaughlin, Tommy Elston, Matt Strassheim, Tom Darbyshire, Denny Woodworth, Tony Fraise, Darin Burco, Sam Halstead, Thad Trump, Terry Gallaher, Colby Springsteen, Greg Kastli, Matt and Lonnie Bailey, and Duane Christensen.

Grandstand general admission $10 for Adults, $9 for Seniors, $7 for Students 11-17, and Free for Kids 10 and under. Pit passes are $20. It is FFA & 4H Night at the speedway. All FFA and 4H members showing ID or wearing uniform get in free. Free tree saplings will be given out to the first 50 race fans to celebrate Arbor Day, compliments of the Lee County Conservation Board. Race time is 7:30.
