Hubert and Kaiser Top Winners List at the Lucas Oil
Speedway-July 28th, 2007
By Dan Robinson
Lucas Oil Speedway PR
WHEATLAND, MO (July 28) - With another huge crowd in attendance at the
"Diamond of Dirt Tracks", the fans were treated to a wild night of door to door
racing action at the Lucas Oil Speedway. Over 90 cars signed into the pits as
the featured classes for the event included the Miller Lite ULMA Late Models,
the Pitt's Homes A-Modifieds, the TCI Transmission Factory Stocks, and the
Chester Fried Chicken Hobby Stocks. The Sawyer Tire Spring-Bling Shootout for
the Late Models was also held for 19 of the top weekly Late Model drivers at the
speedway competing for 1 1/2 times the normal purse.
J.D. Hubert
from Cross Timbers, Missouri brought the crowd to their feet in the Miller Lite
ULMA Late Model Feature as he dove to the bottom of the speedway coming out of
turn 4 on the final corner of the final lap to pass Johnny Fennewald and take
the win by .009 sec. Hubert had command of the field for most of the race but
Fennewald held persistent and took the lead late in the race only to settle for
second with the last lap pass by Hubert. Weaubleau's Toby Ott had a strong run
finishing in third with James Rutledge and point leader Rylan Long rounding out
the Top 5. Long's point lead is now 16 points over Kaiser. Heat Race Winners
were Chad Frewaldt and Hubert as 23 Late Models checked into the pits.
In the Sawyer Tire Spring-Bling Late Model Shootout it was Kevin Kaiser putting
his black Ince chassis into victory lane to take the $750 top prize. Toby Ott
jumped out the early lead and led for much of the race but defending track
champion Kaiser was too tough down the stretch and pulled away to a commanding
win. Brandon Dunham rebounded to finish third with Shawn Williams fourth, and
Harlen Kennedy fifth. The rest of the top 10 included Chad Frewaldt, J.D.
Hubert, Matt Menzie, James Rutledge, and Donnie Gemes. The Spring Bling is a
program that rewards consistency as each of the 19 drivers that participated had
to take the green flag in at least 6 of the weekly series features run up to
this point.
The
Pitt's Homes A-Modifieds would once again be the Stovall/Turner show as Stovall
held to the bottom and Turner went to the top with Turner ultimately taking the
win. Stovall had his Hoffman chassis reskinned this week with a beautiful new
orange paint scheme but the familiar black 99t was just too strong. Josh Hughes
from West Plains, Missouri came across the stripe in third with Jeff Cutshaw and
point leader Rex Merritt both in Allen cars finishing in fourth and fifth spots
respectively. Merritt's season point lead has now slipped to 62 over Turner.
Heat Race winners were Hughes, Turner, Stovall, and Terry Kirk. Todd Kallweit
won the last chance race to get into the main event as 33 modifieds were in the
house.
Robbie
Bryant held strong to win the TCI Transmission Factory Stocks as Camdenton,
Missouri's Kenny Carroll took the second spot with Derek Brown finishing in
third. Ted Welschmeyer and Troy Reasoner Jr. rounded out the Top 5. Brian
Tillman, James Flood, Sundance Keepper, Keith Webster, and Robert Brown were
6th-10th respectively. Webster continues to hold a slim 4 point lead over
Reasoner Jr. in the point standings. Bryant, Ben Solberg, and Carroll were all
heat race winners as 24 Factory Stocks were in attendance.
Tanner Young took the win in the Chester Fried Chicken Hobby Stocks with Kyle
Smith, James Coffland, Adam Belt, and Mike Schrader finishing in the top 5. The
remainder of the Top 10 included Don Belt, Chris Williams, Jacob Hall, Colson
Kirk, and Michael McGilvray.
