Schlup, Beckham, Flood, and Frazon visit Lucas Oil Speedway
Victory Lane-August 18th, 2007
By Dan Robinson
WHEATLAND, MO (Aug 18)-With overcast conditions and a brief shower providing a
very fast and tacky racetrack, clean sweeps were the order of the night as all
four feature winners also won their heat races. Jeff Schlup capped a wild night
of weekly racing series action at The Lucas Oil Speedway by winning The Miller
Lite ULMA Late Model feature, while a visiting Terry Beckham II took the win in
the Pitt's Homes A-Modifieds. James Flood beat a strong field of TCI
Transmission Factory Stocks to take home the win while LaMonte, Missouri's Cody
Frazon took the win in the Chester Fried Chicken Hobby Stocks.
California, Missouri's Jeff Schlup started on the pole in the Miller Lite ULMA
Late Models and outlasted a hard charging Ken Dickinson to take the win.
Dickinson would finish a season best second while Rylan Long rebounded from a
lap 1 mishap to rally and finish 3rd. The Kennedy Brothers, Andy and Harlen
finished nose to tail as they took the fourth and fifth spots respectively.
Schlup made it a clean sweep on the night as he also collected the win in Heat
Race #1 with Andy Kennedy capturing the win in Heat Race #2. Long has expanded
his season long points lead to 48 over Kevin Kaiser as Kaiser struggled in the
feature managing only a 15th place finish after contact on the opening lap. The
race was briefly red flagged for a hard crash by Jeff Shere as he rolled his
late model up against the catch fence just under the flag stand. He walked away
uninjured but the car suffered heavy damage.
The Pitt's Homes A-Modifieds took an unusual twist early on as Eric Turner broke
a differential on the opening lap of his heat race and had to qualify for the
feature through the last chance race. His night would come to an end early in
the feature however as contact with another car would end his night and relegate
him to a 21st place finish. The man of the night however was Webb City,
Missouri's Terry Beckham II as he rode the heavy cushion to the win over a very
consistent Rex Merritt. Merritt would end up second with Scotty Allen, Todd
Kallweit, and Jeff Cutshaw rounding out the top 5. Merritt, Beckham, and Brian
Brown captured heat race wins with Jimmy Willis capturing the win in the
B-feature to advance to the main event. Merritt has opened his point lead back
up to 55 over Turner with only two races remaining to determine the track
champion.
James Flood was the dominant car again this week in the TCI Transmission Factory
Stocks as he took the win ahead of Keith Webster who would hold on for second.
Troy Reasoner Jr., Derrick Brown, and Big Al Thompson had strong runs finishing
in the Top 5 in that order. Flood also won the only heat race of the evening as
the threatening skies kept car counts to an unusual low. Reasoner Jr. now leads
the season point's standings by just 12 points over Webster and 42 over Flood.
Cody Frazon withstood a race long side by side battle with Daniel Sleeper to
take the win in the Chester Fried Chicken Hobby Stocks with Sleeper following
Frazon across the stripe to finish in second spot. Adam Belt was third, Mike
Schrader was fourth, and Tanner Young was fifth. Frazon also captured the win in
the Hobby Stock Heat Race. Adam Belt is now up by just 18 points over Schrader
in the season point's battle.
