WHEATLAND, MO (Sept. 2, 2007) - The weather may have cooled as September rolled
in but the action on the track at the Lucas Oil Speedway was smokin' as the
weekly racing series season concluded with the crowning of the season long
point's championships. Fan favorite, Rex Merritt scored an emotional race win
and also captured the class championship in the Pitt's Homes A-Modifieds. The
Miller Lite ULMA Late Model crown would go to Greenfield, Missouri youngster
Rylan Long as Matt Menzie took the race win. Keith Webster from Reeds Springs,
Missouri held off the challenge of Troy Reasoner Jr. to take the championship in
the TCI Transmission Factory Stocks as Bob Gustin returned from a brief hiatus
from the track to win the Factory Stock Feature. Adam Belt had to sweat it out
to win the Chester Fried Chicken Hobby Stock title as Michael Schrader started
the night just 14 points behind with Danny Everts taking the checkered flag to
win the Hobby Stock Feature.
The Pitt's Homes A-Modified feature had two familiar names on the front row at
the start with Eric Turner on the pole and Rex Merritt to his outside but it was
Merritt holding back the challenge of Turner in lapped traffic to take the win.
After the race was over, second place points finisher Turner pulled up beside
Merritt and gave him a congratulatory handshake as Merritt was instrumental in
the development of Turner's racing career. Terry Beckham once again paid a visit
to the "The Diamond of the Dirt Tracks", and took the third spot. Fort Scott,
Kansas' Brian Bolin had a terrific run finishing in fourth with Steve Martin
rounding out the Top 5. Heat Race winners were Turner, Merritt, and Bolin.
Joseph Bradshaw had a strong run in the B-Feature to advance to the A-Main.
Matt Menzie started outside the front row in the Miller Lite ULMA Late Model
feature and withstood the pressure of J.D. Hubert to take the win. Hubert was
back this week with a new power plant but he didn't quite have enough horses to
catch Menzie as J.D. crossed the stripe in the second spot. Kevin Kaiser took
third in the feature and third in points for the season. Jeff Schlup was fourth
in the race and took the second spot in the point's battle. Shawn Williams had a
strong run to finish the race in fifth. 2007 Track Champion, Rylan Long ran
aggressive and finished in sixth. Hubert, Menzie, and Long captured heat race
wins.
With 26 TCI Transmission Factory Stocks checking into the pits, Bob Gustin
started fourth but was the last man standing as he took the win over Billings,
Missouri's James Flood. Big Al Thompson started third and finished third with
Aaron Gustin fourth and a visiting Kris Jackson finishing in fifth. Heat Race
winners were Derek Brown, Flood, and Thompson. Keith Webster wrapped up the 2007
Championship by virtue of his ninth place run as Reasoner Jr. finished seventh
but it wasn't enough to make up the distance on Webster.
Danny Everts driving the green #77 was the class of the field in the Chester
Fried Chicken Hobby Stocks as he took the win ahead of LaMonte, Missouri's
Michael Schouten. Second place points man Michael Schrader finished the race in
third with 2007 Track Champion, Adam Belt taking the fourth spot. Rounding out
the Top 5 was Don Belt. Danny Everts also won the evening's lone heat race.
