Woodworth, Payne, and Holloway capture Lucas Oil Speedway Wins
on September 8th, 2007
By Dan Robinson - Lucas Oil Speedway PR
WHEATLAND, MO (Sept 9)-The Lucas Oil Speedway closed out the 2007 oval track
season in grand style as 140 plus cars in three classes packed the pits for the
final stock car event of the season as the speedway now begins preparations for
the Nissan Show-Down in the Show-Me State WSORR off-road event on September
22nd-23rd. Denny Woodworth picked up his first ever O'Reilly MLRA win while
Jeremy Payne took home the $2,000 for winning the Coca-Cola Modified Bash for
Cash. Jordon Holloway made a rare appearance at "The Diamond of Dirt Tracks" and
visited victory lane in the Triangle Quick Stop Factory Stock Clash.
Denny Woodworth from Mendon, IL started outside the front row and fought with
Alan Vaughn for the early lead but Woodworth clearly had the best car and
captured his first ever win with the O'Reilly MLRA. Series Point leader Alan
Vaughn held on for second with Marine, Illinois' Mark Voigt taking the third
spot. Fourth would go to Coffeyville, Kansas' Al Purkey while Jeremy Payne
driving a Woodworth back-up car finished in the Top 5 after qualifying for the
feature by winning the second of two B-Mains. 2007 Lucas Oil Speedway Late Model
Champion, Rylan Long had an outstanding run to make the show and finish in the
sixth spot. David Turner, Christian Rayburn, Jason Bodenhamer, and Randy
Zimmerman rounded out the Top 10. Heat race victories went to Al Purkey, Sonny
Findling, Alan Vaughn, Christian Rayburn, and Denny Woodworth while Gary Stolba
and Jeremy Payne picked up the B Feature wins.
Arizona native and current Springfield Missouri resident Jeremy Payne driving
the Andy's Frozen Custard/Hatfield/GRT outlasted 62 modifieds to take the $2,000
win in the Coca-Cola Modified Bash. It was not easy though as Payne started in
the third row and trailed for much of the feature event as Terry Beckham held
the top spot. Things would get dicey though on the last two laps as Payne and
Beckham swapped the lead several times with a series of fantastic passes and
slide jobs bringing the huge crowd to their feet but it was Payne at the stripe
taking the win. Beckham would hold on for second with a lurking Eric Turner
settling for third. Justin "Whitey" Folk was fourth with Fort Scott, Kansas'
Brian Bolin having another strong run to take the fifth spot. The rest of the
top 10 included Jesse Stovall, Jamie Ragland, Chad Lyle, Rex Merritt, and Matt
Johnson. Heat Race winners were Joe Bradshaw, Terry Beckham, Jamie Ragland,
Jeremy Payne, Whitey Folk, and Eric Turner. B-Main winners were Tony Jackson
Jr., Darren Roberts, and Jason Hughes. Scott Drake appeared to win Heat Race #4
but came up light at the scales after apparently losing a piece of lead during
the race. He ultimately would race his way into the feature finishing in the
12th spot.
The Triangle Quick Stop Factory Stock Clash paid $500 to the winner and over 40
of the best Factory Stocks in the region showed up to try to earn the winners
share of the loot. Jordon Holloway was the man of the evening as he held off the
challenges of Tim Brown to take the win. Brown finished a strong second with
Jody Tillman third, Brian Tillman fourth, and Aaron Gustin in fifth. Ben
Solberg, James Elles, James Flood, Derrick Brown, and John Clancy Jr. also had
top 10 finishes on the evening. Jody Tillman, Ted Welschmeyer, Kris Jackson and
Tim Brown captured heat race wins while Kevin Crider and Ben Solberg each won a
B-main to transfer to the main event.
