MLRA Heads to Heartland Park Topeka
BUCKNER, MO (September 1) - The O'Reilly MLRA Presented by Lucas Oil
Products makes their first visit of 2009 to the Sunflower State this
Saturday night, September 5th as the MLRA Super Late Models travel to the
Dirt Track at Heartland Park Topeka just outside of Topeka, Kansas. This
will be the sole appearance of the season for the MLRA at Heartland Park
Topeka as the drivers battle for the $3,000 to win top prize.
Pit Gates will open at 3:00 with spectator gates set to open at 5:00. Hot
Laps get underway at 6:15pm with racing set to start at 7:00pm. General
Admission is $15 with Kids just $5. Pit Passes will be $30. Champ Modifieds
and Factory Stocks will also be in action. Visit www.HPT.com or
www.MLRAracing.com for details.
Defending Series Champion John Anderson has bypassed 5-Time Champion Al
Purkey for the lead in the MLRA season point battle, as Anderson now holds a
66 point lead over Purkey. Anderson cruised to the win last time out at
Sedalia's State Fair Speedway while Purkey was relegated to the pits with a
broken axle. Joe Kosiski continues to reside in the third spot with
consistent runs week in and week out. David Turner sits in fourth after a
recent hard crash at Lucas Oil Speedway forced Turner into his older Rocket
Chassis. Turner muscled his way to a respectable 15th place finish at
Sedalia to remain in the Championship battle despite thrashing to get the
back up car ready to go. Jason Bodenhamer has closed to within 11 points of
Turner however as he holds down the fifth spot.
The rest of the Top 10 include Lancaster, Missouri's Chris Smyser, Mendon,
Illinois' Denny Woodworth, Belton, Missouri's Alan Vaughn, Corning, Iowa's
Bryant Goldsmith, and Rookie Matt Johnson from Archie, Missouri. At this
point in the season, Fifteen Drivers will be eligible for awards at the
Championship Banquet to be held on November 21st at the Argosy Casino
provided they maintain their 70% event attendance. Complete and updated
points standings can be found at www.MLRAracing.com.
