Past Winners Again Visit Victory Lane
by: Dennis Grabenbauer
MARSHALLTOWN, IA (May 18) - The annual Midwest Liquids Scout Night roared to
life Friday night with over one hundred race teams competing for the honor to
visit the Aarons Victory Lane for week number six. Familiar faces would visit
victory lane in repeat wins, as all past winners in previous weeks, would again
find victory lane on a near perfect race track. Two and three wide racing would
treat fans in close and exciting racing action.
Tim Hennigar would win his third feature of the year in the Dwarf Cars, by
taking the lead from Terry Brown on lap two. Hennigar would only be slowed by a
yellow on lap five, then would work his way through heavy lap traffic on lap
nine to score his third win of the year, with his last coming on week two. Andy
Hennigar, Mike Morrill and Randy Bryan would follow Tim Hennigar across the
finish line.
Kyle Brown would again this week would lead the opening lap of the I.M.C.A.
Sport Mod feature, and again this week would experience engine trouble ending
his night early and ending his hopes of his first feature win. Brown, who won
his second heat race of the season, would fall from the top ten at the end and
an early trip to the pit area. Kevin Sather whose first win of the season came
on week three would again visit victory lane this week. Sather finished ahead of
Scott Jorpeland, J.D. Albright and Eric Becker.
Sean Johnson would have things going his way on the start of the Aarons I.M.C.A.
Stock Car event until lap twelve when engine trouble would slow his car coming
off of turn four, giving up the lead to last weeks winner Donovan Smith. Two and
three wide racing in the green to checkered eighteen-lap event would see Smith
pull away to a substantial lead. Smith would out distance 2006 track champion
Tracy Gienger, Mike VanGenderen and Johnson to score his second win of the
season.
Rob Olson took the lead on the opening lap of the I.M.C.A. Modified twenty-lap
feature, but would loose the top spot on lap two when Jimmy Gustin would rocket
to the lead. Gustin who was winless in 2005 and 2006 has used patience to keep
him in the point lead and scoring his third win of the season. “It’s my crew and
sponsor’s who have really turned us around. We are just having fun and enjoying
what we are doing, and this is the out come, victory’, said Gustin in victory
lane. Finishing second for the second week in a row was J.D. Auringer followed
by Brett Ladehoff who started in the last the eighteenth position. Defending
track champion Jeff Schroyer rounded out the top four.
Opening night feature winner Luke Wanninger again tasted victory in the I.M.C.A.
Hobby Stock class, after opening lap leader Josh Saunders would spin in turn
four. Wanninger and the rest of the field would battle three yellow flags to the
end of their twelve-lap event. Terry Schaffer would finish second followed by
Dustin Elliott and Trent Murphy.
Racing will continue next Friday night to start the long Memorial Day weekend.
The grandstand will open at 5:30 followed by hot-laps at 6:45 and the first
event of the evening will get underway at 7:30.
