SECOND HALF OF SEASON PUT ON HOLD AFTER RAIN! by: Dennis Grabenbauer MARSHALLTOWN, IA (June 27) -With the start of the second half of the 2008 racing season just moments away, ‘mother nature” reappeared at the Marshalltown Speedway Friday evening, bringing an end to the start before the night could get underway. Right after the final car pulled into the pit area at the end of hot-laps, the sky’s opened and the night was finished. “This is the worst time anything like this could happened”, commented track promoter Toby Kruse. “What’s really bad is all of the cars and fans were in place, they all made the trip, and we had to cancel. It has been quite the season”. Drivers and fans ranging from Minnesota and Missouri were on hand not only for Friday night’s program but also to take part in the city’s State BBQ Contest. Also drivers and fans were getting tuned in for the Stock Car Shoot coming up on Monday and Tuesday. “Right now we have heard from drivers from five states who are planning on attending the two day Shoot-Out program,” said Kruse. Defending Shoot-Out Champion’s Donovan Smith and Devin Smith from Lake City are expected to defend their 2007 titles in the Stock Car and Hobby Stock divisions. Monday and Tuesday’s night programs will start with the gates opening at 5:00. Hot laps will begin at 6:45 and the first races will begin at 7:30 both nights.
