Final Night of Racing in August at the Marshalltown Speedway!

MARSHALLTOWN, IA (August 28) - The first night of three during the next eight days were run Friday night as a near perfect night would greet race fans during week number sixteen.  Friday night also had the Central Iowa Stock Car Club making their annual visit.

As the tune up for the “Havoc on the High Banks” continues, drivers would make the trip from Kansas, to test and tune at the high-banked quarter mile race way during the last Friday night in August.  Jason Schoenberger, from Russell Kansas and David Murray from Oberlin Kansas would test their skills on the famed track.  “It’s always good to see different drivers and new drivers come and race with us,” said promoter Toby Kruse.  “Both of these drivers are top drivers who have had much success in the state of Iowa.”  Murray is the all time I.M.C.A. win leader with a total of over 400-career wins to his credit.   Schoenberger was the 2005 Super National Champion in the Stock Car division.  “We really had the best of the best on Friday night, but that what we have been giving our fans, the best show on dirt week in and week out.”

David Murray was definitely the one to keep your eye on during the Meswaki Bingo Casino Hotel I.M.C.A. Modified feature, but it was Marshalltown’s Brett Ladehoff who held off Murray to the end to score his second feature win in as many weeks.  Ladehoff would take the lead from Kyle Krampe on lap four then continue to hit his marks the remaining sixteen laps to make it look easy in repeating in victory lane.  With two laps remaining is when Murray, who started twelfth was showing his stuff by charging hard into turn three making up ground and moving into second place.  As the leaders were working around lap traffic, Murray would not be able to get close enough to challenge Ladehoff, but Ladehoff stayed perfect to take his second feature of the year.  Point leader Jimmy Gustin finished third followed by Adam Larson.

Kevin Sather not only won for the eighth time in the Big 8 Tyre Center I.M.C.A. Sport Mod feature but with his win and a tenth place finish by Scott Davis was able to regain the point lead going into the season championships next Friday night.  Sather would take the lead on lap seven and hold the top spot until the end to score the win.  Austin Kaplan, Jake Strayer and Brad Iverson would follow Sather across the finish line.

Brothers Dustin and David Smith would finish one and two in the green to checkered Aarons I.M.C.A. Stock Car feature as Dustin scored his tenth victory of the year and sealed a track championship.  Tommy Thompson would again lead the first five laps before giving way to David Smith.  David would lead past the half way point then with three laps to go, younger brother Dustin would make a low side pass and go on for the win.   Behind the Smiths was Jeff Wollam and Dusty Vis.

Todd Reitzler picked up his forth win of the season in the Junction Sports Bar & Grille I.M.C.A. Hobby Stock feature by taking the lead on lap four and never looked back.  Reitzler has worked his way into the top three in points finished ahead of Terry Shaffar, Michael Murphy and point leader Devin Smith.

Joel Huggins would lead the entire fifteen lap Mod Lite Dwarf Car feature as he posted his fifth win of the year.  Huggins would out distance point leader Mike Morrill, Johnny Mordock and Josh May to make things look easy in score his win.

September will be referred to as the “month of money” and will get things started off on Tuesday September 1st with the Miller Lite 50 for the Deery Brothers Late Model Summer series taking to the speedway.  Joining the I.M.C.A. Late Models will be the Dirt Trucks, Sport Mods and Mod Lites.  There will be a 7:00 starting time with the grandstand opening at 5:00.

Friday night September 4th will be the Larry Wollam Season Championships.  There will be out of car introductions along with the championship features.  Also added will be Australian Pursuit events in all classes with $100 going to the winner of each event.  The gates will open at 5:30 hot laps starting at 7:00 and the first event of the night will begin at 7:30.
