MARSHALLTOWN, IA (September 27) - When the final checkered flag was thrown at the Marshalltown Speedway Sunday night, it brought the end to a season that will go down in the memories of many fans, race teams and promoter Toby Kruse. “What a season this has been,” commented Kruse. “We have seen first year drivers earn first time wins, special events that have would pay out large purse amounts and two Nascar drivers, Kenny Wallace and Kenny Schrader who would compete here. We also experienced no rainouts in April, then losing three nights in a row in May for a total of five through out the entire season in racing a total of twenty-seven nights. All in all we continue to build our program to be one of the best in the country and that has been our goal from the start of rein here in Marshalltown.” The racing action was close and very competitive on a late afternoon when gusting winds and constantly dropping temperatures would have everyone thinking of the Iowa weather that will be just around the corner. For the first time ever, the Meskwaki Bingo Casino Modified would be running topless. “This is something I have been wanting to try, and this was the time to do it. I hope the fans enjoyed it because it did bring a new look to the action on the track.” Jon Snyder would duel side by side with Jason Snyder to take the win in the twenty-five-lap event. The Snyder’s, no relation, would put on the final show of the season as the two didn’t let up right to the end. Adam Larson and Scott Simatovich would follow the Snyder’s across the finish line. Kurt Krauskopf would make his first trip to Marshalltown a good one as he would take the lead from Dave Atcher in the Aarons Stock Car feature on lap sixteen. The two would run bumper to bumper the final four laps in securing the win for Krauskopf. Steve Meyer and Mike VanGenderen would round out the top four. Austin Lucas would take the lead at the half waypoint of the Big 8 Tyre Center Sport Mod division. Before the checkered flag would fly, Bill Hildreth and Duane VanDeest would make it a three-car battle right to the end with Lucas edging out Hildreth on the final lap. Kyle Brown would finish forth. It would be another new face in victory lane in the Junction Sports Bar & Grill Hobby Stock class. Chris Hovden would take the lead from Donavon Nunnikhoven on lap seven and then would have to just keep the lead to go on and take the victory. Scott Splide finish third with Terry Shaffar forth. Mike Morrill started the season in April in victory lane and that would be how he would finish the season, by winning yet another Mod Lite Dwarf Car feature. Morrill would lead the entire event. Randy Bryan, Joel Huggins and Troy Hudson followed Morrill across the finish line. Making a return visit on the final night would be the Karl Chevrolet Dirt Trucks and for the second week in a row Brett Moyer would finish in the number one position. Brian Murray, Ed Nelson and Brad Moyer followed Moyer across the finish line. The season at the Marshalltown Speedway is now history, bringing an end to the 45-consective season at the famed quarter mile speedway. On had next will be the awards banquet Saturday November 21st.
