MARSHALLTOWN, IA (May 14, 2010) – Mother Nature
finally decided to cooperate with us for a fantastic evening of racing at
the Marshalltown Speedway. A full grandstand greeted 111 race cars for the
Cliff Chambers Memorial. Just like every week, there were multiple fast
lines around the racetrack and race fans were treated with 3 and 4 wide race
all night, as Promoter Toby Kruse ended the night in victory lane by saying,
“that was an awesome night of racing!”
The Nostalgia cars were the first to take the
track and they brought a retro feel to the night as long time racer and
friend of Cliff Chambers, John Shroyer picked up both the heat race and
feature win.
The Mod Lite Dwarf Cars went green to checkered
as Jeff Stensland jumped out to the early lead. On lap 2 Stensland got
sideways in turn 2 and Joel Huggins made what would end up to be the winning
pass on the inside of Stensland. Points leader Mike Morrill got 2nd,
Colby Oberembt 3rd and Randy Bryan 4th. Heat race
winners were Joel Huggins and Eric Hendrickson.
The Big 8 Tyre Center Sport Mods started out
with a roll over on lap 1 as Eric Elliott got upside down off of turn 2.
Elliott was okay and after the straight up restart the race would go green
to checkered. Jayme Duinink led the first 11 laps and Brett Moffitt made
the pass for the win on lap 12. Jake Strayer got 2nd, Geoff
Olson 3rd and Jayme Duinink 4th. Moffitt will be a
busy guy throughout the next week as he will join us Tuesday and Friday to
race his Sport Mod and next Sunday he will be racing for Job Gibbs in the
K&N Pro Filters NASCAR East vs. West Series race at the Iowa Speedway. Make
sure to go root on our local driver to a big win at the Iowa Speedway. Heat
race winners were Jayme Duinink, Adam Shelman and Eric Flander.
Points leader Dustin Smith started 11th
and picked up his first win of the year in the Aarons Stock Cars. Dave
Atcher led the first 5 laps and Smith worked the inside of the track and
took the lead on lap 6 and led the last 12 laps. Donnie Bourcher got upside
down on lap 5 and would walk away from the wreck. The yellow flag flew on
laps 5 and 11. Dave Atcher crossed the line 2nd, Clay Deppe 3rd
and Michael Jeanette 4th. Dave Atcher, Michael Jeanette and
Dustin Smith each won heat races.
The Meskwaki Casino Modified feature proved to
be a wild one and kept fans on the edges of their seat all throughout the 20
lap event. Rod Clement led the first 5 laps, with Richie Gustin leading laps
6-10. Gustin would break on lap 11 going down the back stretch and pull
in. After that Mike O’Lear took the lead and paced the field the rest of
the way with a strong challenge from Jimmy Gustin the last 5 laps. Gustin
and O’Lear would go 3 wide with a lapped car on lap 17 make heavy contact
with it and bring the yellow out as Andrew Kinser wasn’t able to make the
track exit. O’Lear ended up 1st, Jimmy Gustin 2nd,
Todd Conrad 3rd and Joel Bushore 4th. Heat race
winners were Mike O’Lear and Adam Larson.
In the Junction Bar and Grill Hobby Stocks
Devin Smith would pick up his second feature win in a row and extend upon
his points lead. Jennifer Hulin led the first 3 laps of the event and Smith
the last 9. Todd Reitzler ended up 2nd, Michael Murphy 3rd
and Eric Knutsen 4th. The Hobby Stocks went green to checkered
for the second consecutive week. Todd Reitzler, Shannon Deppe and Devin
Smith would all pick up heat wins. Make sure to join us Tuesday May 18th for the IMCA Deery Brother Summer Series Late Model racing action. Support classes are the Karl Chevrolet Dirt Trucks, Mod Lites and the Big 8 Tyre Center Sport Mods. Hot laps are at 6:15 pm and the racing starts at 7:00 pm.
