Fraise, Browning, Wilsey and Schulte Become New Winners at
the Scotland County Speedway
by Brian NealMEMPHIS, MO (May 31) - A beautiful night of racing at
the Scotland County Speedway produced four new winners on J's Foods Night.
Picking up thier first features of the season were Tony Fraise (Modifieds),
Michael Browning (Stock Cars), Rob Wilsey (Hobby Stocks) and Dennis Schulte
(Hornets), while Jim Gillenwater (B-Modifieds) was the only repeat winner.
The first feature on the night was the 14 lap Hobby Stocks, with Jeff Soper
taking advantage of his front row start to jump out front on lap 1. Soper
worked to hold off Brandon Symmonds and Rob Wilsey, until a caution on lap
8. On the restart, Wilsey jumped to the outside of Soper to grab the top
spot away on lap 9. Wilsey then held off Soper over the final five laps to
pick up his first win of 2008 at Memphis. Symmonds was third, Justin
Hamelton was fourth, with Tim Pettibone coming home in fifth. Heat race
winners were Wilsey and Symmonds.
Up next was the 14 lap B-Modified feature. Casey Lancaster grabbed the lead
on the drop of the green flag and then held it until lap 2, when Jim
Gillenwater slipped by for the top spot. Gillenwater would lead the final 13
laps to claim his second win in a row at the speedway. Lancaster held on for
second, Mark Winkel was third, Josh Larson was fourth, with Dustin Boling
rounding out the top five. Beau Taylor and Lancaster took the heat race
wins.
Gabe Harrison moved out front on lap 1 of the 8 lap Hornet feature, with
Dennis Schulte close behind in second. Schulte would move past Harrison on
lap 3 and then went on to lead the final five laps to pick up his first win
of the season at the track. Harrison was second, Ethan Hustead was third,
with Dalton McCartney fourth. The heat race was won by Harrison.
The 12 lap Stock Car feature took to the track next, with Michael Browning
jumping out front on lap 1 from his front row start. Browning had to work to
hold off AJ Johnson and Mike Robinson over the next 13 laps, when Johnson
spun in turn two while going for the lead. Browning then held off Robinson
on the green-white-checkered finish to claim his first win of 2008 at
Memphis. Mark Holt was third, Troy Alexander was fourth, with Johnson
recovering to finish in fifth. Robinson took home the heat race win.
The final feature of the evening was the 18 lap Modifieds, with Tony Fraise
taking advantage of his front row start to jump out front on lap 1. Fraise
would lead all 18 laps in a caution free feature to pick up his first win of
the season at the speedway. Michael Long came from eighth to finish in
second, Ryan Meyer was third, Wyatt Lantz was fourth, with Jody Wood
rounding out the top five. Heat race wins went to Long and Kevin Peters.
Coming up next week at the Scotland County Speedway will be Gas & More
Night. Racing action will continue in the Modifieds, Stock Cars,
B-Modifieds, Hobby Stocks and Hornets. Pit gates will open at 4:30pm,
grandstand at 5:00pm, drivers draw cut-off is 6:10pm, hot laps at 6:30pm,
and racing at 7:00pm sharp! Grandstand admission is adults $8, students
(11-15) and seniors (62+) $6 and kids 10 and under Free, with pit passes
$20.
