MEMPHIS, MO (May 21, 2011) - Mother nature tried to cancel another Saturday night of racing at the Scotland County Speedway in Memphis, MO, but the track crew would allow that to happen. Early morning and late afternoon sun and winds helped dry the track in time to go racing. The night would start out with the 7 lap Hornet feature, with Chuck Fullenkamp and C Jay Loring leading the field to the green flag. Fullenkamp would take advantage of his front row start to grab the lead on lap 1 over fifth place starter Devin Still. The action was slowed only one time, as Loring slowed to a stop in turn four on the completion of lap 2. On the restart Fullenkamp jumped back out into the lead, with Still challenging in second. Fullenkamp would hold off Still on the final lap to pick up his first win of the season at the track. Mike Hornung Jr was 3rd, Cameron Bright was 4th, with Loring credited with 5th. Up next was the 8 lap Stock Car feature, with Beau Taylor and Russell Tobias drawing the front row for the event. Taylor would jump out front on lap 1 over Mike Harward, who has won the first two features of the season at the speedway. Harward tried everything to get by Taylor, but Taylor would hold him off to claim the win. Tyler McClure was 3rd, Tobias held on for 4th, with Derek Sammons coming home in 5th. Rick Barlow Jr and Austin Schulte drew the front row for the 12 lap SportMod feature, with Barlow Jr grabbing the lead on lap 1. But Barlow Jr would only lead 1 lap, as Jason McDaniel, who started 5th, slipped by on lap 2 to take over the top spot. McDaniel then worked to hold off Barlow Jr, when the first and only caution of the event came out on lap 9. Tenny Sammons would slow with troubles to bring out the yellow. On the restart McDaniel moved back out into the lead and then held on over the final 3 laps to pick up the win. Barlow Jr settled for 2nd, Brandon Dale was 3rd, Aaron Penick was 4th, with Logan Trueblood rounding out the top 5. The ULMA Late Model 10 lap feature was up next, with Robby Warner and Jake Griffin leading the field to the drop of the green flag. Warner would take advantage of his front row starting spot to grab the lead on lap 1 over Griffin. Griffin would try the high side of the speedway to get by Warner for the lead over the next 6 laps. But the first and only caution of the race would come out on lap 7 to slow the battle down up front. Dave Miller would spin in turn four to bring out the yellow. On the restart Griffin jumped to the outside of Warner to grab the top spot. Griffin, who is only 12 years old, would hold on for the final 2 laps to claim his first career ULMA Late Model feature win. Warner settled for 2nd, Danny Lorton was 3rd, with Miller finishing in 4th. The most exciting feature of the night was the 15 lap Hobby Stocks, with Tim Pettibone and Andrew Hustead drawing the front row. Hustead would jump out into the lead on lap 1 over Pettibone. Hustead and Pettibone would battle side by side for the lead, while Ben Grove and Dale Porter battled side by side for third. The great battle up front was slowed for the first time on lap 3, when Tony Teninty slowed with front end troubles. On the restart Hustead again grabbed the lead, with Pettibone close behind in 2nd. The battle up front would get heated, as Porter, Doug Gordon, who started 8th, and Clayton Crump, who started 10th, move in to join Hustead and Pettibone for the battle two and three wide for the top 5 spots. Gordon jumped to the top of the speedway and would over take Hustead for the top spot on lap 9, with Pettibone moving into 2nd. But the great battle up front was slowed again on lap 10 when Bobby Lair spun in turn 4. Gordon grabbed the lead on the restart, with Pettibone and Crump battling for second. The close racing up front would come to an end on lap 13 when Porter, who was running 4th, spun off of turn 4 and collected Jimmy Hayes, who came from 14th, and Jaime Bevill. Once again Gordon jumped into the lead on the restart, with Crump now close behind in second. Crump would try to get by Gordon on the final lap, but Gordon was able to hold on to claim the win. Crump settled for 2nd, Pettibone was 3rd, Steve Allen came from 12th to finish in 4th, with Hustead holding on for a top 5. The final feature of the night was the 20 lap UMP Modified feature, with Steven DeLonjay and Michael Long leading the field to the drop of the green. Long would grabbed the lead on lap 1 over DeLonjay and David Holder. The first caution of the event would come out on lap 2, when Holder spun in turn 2 and collected David Wietholder, who was running 4th, and Tony Dunker. On the restart Dunker would spin in turn 1 to bring the yellow light back on. Long moved back out front on the next restart, with Robbie Reed over taking DeLonjay for 2nd. The field was slowed for debris in turn 2 on lap 3. On the restart Long again moved out front, with Reed and DeLonjay battling for second. The yellow light would appear on lap 5, when James Leffow, who was running 4th, spun in turn 4. On the restart Leffow would spin off of turn 4 to end his night with his second solo yellow. Long would grab the lead on the restart and then held on over the final 15 laps to claim his third win in a row at the speedway. DeLonjay over took Reed to finish in 2nd, Reed settled for 3rd, Brandon Savage, and IMCA legal Modified, would come from 7th to finish in 4th, with Troy Grotz coming from 13th to round out the top 5.
