"Amsoil Dirt Track Racing Action" at Chateau Raceway in Lansing by: Matthew Grage LANSING, MN (July 11) - Things were hot all the way around Friday Night for "Amsoil Dirt Track Racing Action" at Chateau Raceway in Lansing "Powered by Miners Outdoor Power and Recreation of Blooming Prairie. With temperatures around the ninety degree mark and the heat index up there as well it was more than just the action on the track that was hot. Add to that, it was the night for the annual "Flashing Thunder" Fireworks show that track brings in around the fourth of July weekend. With all the other Fireworks displays around the area last weekend the track decided to hold off a week on there show to kind of put a cap on a week long celebration. A great crowd was on hand as a nice field of cars put on there own fireworks on the track to keep the excitement level up all night long. Mother Nature added her own flashing thunder as the fireworks and final races were ran off as radar was showing rain less than fifteen miles away as fans headed to there cars to head home for the weekend shortly after ten'-o'clock after a quickly paced show and a dynamite fireworks presentation which culminated once again this year with those huge thirty feet high balls of flame coming from the infield. After a couple weeks of excessive cautions in several races the seven feature races friday night had a combined total of just seven yellow flags with two features running caution free. The first half of the program was just as smooth as the eleven heats were run in just over an hour with only a hand full of cautions in those races. Among the caution free features was the "Power 96 WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds". Troy Dahle of Morristown started on the outside of the front row and he went straight to the point leading A.J. Wiste of Adams down into turn one. Wiste made a few runs on him early in the race but had nothing for him as Dahle claimed his first career Chateau Feature Win. Wiste held on for second over Greg Pfeifer Jr of Austin who put on a good show working out of row four to come up to third. Pfefier out dueled Brandon Davis of Medford for the spot over the races final laps. Current point leader Albert Wytaske of Lanisng out ran brother Kenny Wytaske of Lansing for fifth. Albert entered the night with a six point lead on Kenny but lost three of those back in the heat after Kenny won his heat and Albert could manage just a fourth. However by out runing him in the feature he put his advantage back to four heading to next week. Wiste took the classes other heat win. Also running caution free were the ""Pizza Ranch Pure Stocks". Daniel Klingfus of Rose Creek held the early lead until lap six when things got wild. Klingfus lead Brandon Skalicky of Claremont and Tyler Peterson of Hollandale in a very tight battle which saw three different leaders on that one lap. Going into turn one Skalicky got the jump on Klingfus and went to the lead coming out of turn two, but heading down the back straightaway Peterson got a run under both of them and took over the lead as the trio came through turn three. Peterson than had to hold off Skalicky over the races final laps. Ross Spitzer made a good run after starting back in row four coming up to third just ahead of Klingfus as the checkers. Jason Newkirk of Austin rounded out the races top five. Heat winners in the class for the night were Spitzer and Peterson giving Tyler a sweep for the night as he picked up his first wins of the season in convincing fashion. The track made an adjustment to its "S and S Auto Salvage Hornet Class." With so many young drivers entering the class it was decided to divide the class with those age sixteen and under moving to a Junior Hornet division and those above that age into Senior Hornet. The idea is to keep encouraging the new young drivers and not putting them in a situation where they get frustrated by being run over by the older more experienced drivers. The status of the drivers in the classes will be at the tracks discretion if somebody needs to be moved up or down. This moved allowed a couple of the younger drivers to pick up their first career wins. In the heat race Garitt Wytaske of Lansing lead flag to flag for his first checker. He was looking for a sweep on the night when he lead the field to the green in the feature, and in fact held the early lead until they got around to turn four when he spun the car bringing out the races only caution flag. Cousin Michael Wytaske of Lansing lead the field in for the restart and proceeded to stay there the whole race as he claimed not only his first career win but first career feature win as well. Matt Brooks of Austin came home second ahead of Garitt who worked his way back forward to finish just ahead of Trae Diaz of Austin and Jacob Stark, also of Austin. The Senior Hornets also ran a pretty clean feature with just one yellow slowing there event. Jesse Harang of Northwood Iowa started on the pole and grabbed the early lead ahead of Gary Stahl of Kasson. Last weeks feature winner Mike Blowers of Waseca was fourth on that first lap but made some nice moves in the next two laps as he quickly sprinted to the front as the field completed lap three. Stahl the current point leader for the class stuck with Mike the rest of the way but had to settle for a second place finish ahead of Jason McShane of Waseca, Randy Rauen of Austin, and Harang. The only caution of the race came out just after halfway when a wheel came off the car of Ben Sprung of Rose Creek. Stahl was the classes heat winner. In "Triple J Disposal WISSOTA Super Stock" action Cole Queensland of Grand Meadow added to his points lead as he took his fourth feature win of the season. Josh Bartel lead lap one before he went sideways in turn four bringing out the first of three cautions in the race. Queensland inherited the lead and never looked back as he cruised to the win. Jeff Brauer of Rochester outdueled Jason Gabrielson of Austin for second with Bartel making a nice run back up to fourth ahead of Chris Klinger of Austin. Gabrielson grabbed the classes heat win in a tight finish with Brauer. You could almost of added the "Affordable Portables WISSOTA Street Stocks" to the list of caution free features. They had one spin on the opening lap before a lap was completed but on the ensuing restart they ran clean the entire fifteen lap distance. Jesse Stahl of Austin, last years track champion in the Pure Stock Class, had the early lead but was being pressured by Bobby Kilby of Austin. Kilby finally made the pass for the lead on lap nine as he got to the inside of Stahl out of turn two. Stahl than engaged in a three car battle for second with Allen Gessell Jr of Big Lake and A.J. Zvorak of Blooming Prairie. The three went three wide on lap eleven through turn three with Stahl being shuffled back to fourth. Zvorak and Gessell than went side by side a few laps before A.J. slipped up high in turns three and four coming to the white. Gessell took control of second and Stahl came back through to take third. Ryan Goergen of Stacyville Iowa who took one of the heat wins rounded out the top five. The other heat winner was Matt Eustice of Hartland who had a nice battle with Zvorak down the stretch of that race. The "Frenchs Repair and Fabrication USRA Modifieds" ran a nice feature as well with just one early caution slowing that event. Jacob Dahle of Morristown started on the pole and used it to grab the lead at the drop of the green. Tommy Myer of Blooming Prairie worked from row two to second on lap two right before the only caution of the race came out when a chain reaction incident in turn one brought out the yellow. On the restated Jacob pulled off to a nice lead again as Myer stated looking for a line on the hard dry slick track. He finally settled on a line around the top of the cushion and slowly started pulling up on the leader. The only place he seemed to have trouble was coming through turn two when the care seemed to slide a bit more. Tommy got that under control after a few short laps and on lap eight he made the pace for the lead and proceeded to walk away for his second feature win at Lansing this season. Dahle, who scored a win in his heat, held on for second ahead of a hard charging Mike Sorensen of Rochester who drove two different lines at each end of the track to charge from a row seven starting spot to take third. In turns three and four he would run way up on the cushion like Myer was doing but at the south end of the track in turns one and two he would cut all the way down to the bottom of the track. Doug Hillson of Blooming Prairie took fourth ahead of the nights other heat winner Brad Bakken of Garner Iowa. Next Friday Nights Kids Promotion is being billed as "Christmas in July" with some treats in store for all the kids. After the heat friday night folks may be hoping if the jolly old elf shows up for the night he maybe brings a little cooler air with him from the north pole. Racing action scheduled to get underway again next Friday night at 7:30 at Chateau Raceway in Lansing, just five miles north of Austin.
