Johnson wins in first visit in 2008 to Deer Creek By Bill Nelson SPRING VALLEY, MN (August 2) - Racing action cranked up on Button Buck Speedway at 3 in the afternoon with racing action in the Pepsi Slingshots up first on Dirt Doctor Trucking and Joe Gardner Cabinetry day at the speedway. In the junior division Lucas Schott took the lead on the second attempt at a clean start. Parker Hale sat in second with Jace Bunne charging into third early. Brady Keefe was the exciting one early on as he rim road his slingshot into the top five. Unfortunately for Keefe the bottom became the preferred line and his slid back in the field after the half way point. A late restart saw Hale pull alongside of Schott on the white flag lap as they raced down the back straight. Coming out of four Hale made the pass and moved ahead of Schott to take home the win. The pee-wee division of the Pepsi Slingshots saw Lexi Schott jump out the early lead over Dustin Sorensen. Schott cruised home with the win with Sorensen in a close second. JT Wasmund took home third with Garrett Koster in fourth. Lucas Schott beat Jake Timm out of corner two in the Regular Slingshot division to take the lead. Timm was in second while Cody Gardner ran third. Mike Hyland started rear on the field in one of the Deer Creek house cars and by the halfway point moved past Jeremy Paulson for the fifth spot. A late restart saw Jace Bunne move past Timm to take over second as Gardner pushed up in two and dropped back through the field. At the finish it was Schott with the win, Bunne and Timm rounding out the top three. Albert Wytaske jumped out to the lead from the front row in the Dirt Doctor Trucking WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature event. Brandon Davis ran in second with a three wide race for third behind him. Davis started to pressure Wyatske for the lead on the low side of the speedway. With six completed Wytaske and Davis ran side by side over the stripe while Dan Wheeler and Jimmie Arnold were side by side for fourth behind AJ Wiste. The battle up front continued until a restart with nine to go. Wytaske still led with Davis following him around the speedway. Arnold was working low on Wiste and took third as another caution flew with six to go. Under caution Davis was pushed into the pit area. On the restart Wytaske led with Arnold moving into second as Wheeler, Wiste and Kenny Wytaske raced three wide for third. Wheeler took the spot and with three to go pulled alongside of Arnold for second and took that spot. Wheeler drove it in hard and under Wytaske in turn two of the white flag lap to take over first and took home the win with Wytaske in a close second and Arnold third. Karl Hewitt Jr. had an auspicious start to in the Tims Repair and Towing WISSOTA Street Stocks. Coming out of turn two Hewitt had a good run until some contact got his car turned sideways and after getting a little help from another car, he was in the air sideways and bouncing off the roof before ending up on his drivers side door panel. On the ensuing restart Sam Averbeck took the early lead with Ryan Goergen in second. Goergen was running the low side of the speedway with Averbeck in the middle. Goergen and Averbeck raced side by side for two laps until Goergen took over the lead. As Goergen led Jesse Stahl had the topside working. With thirteen to go Stahl moved past Goergen for the lead while Allen Gessel Jr., moved up to race with Goergen for second. During the later stages Gessell was able to close up on Stahl but not close enough to mount serious pressure for the spot. Stahl cruised home with the win and was greeted in victory lane by fellow street stock racer AJ Zvorak with a big hug. Gessell came home second with Troy Voth working up from ninth to finish third as he and Zvorak had a great battle throughout the race. The US Army WISSOTA Super Stocks were up next for their feature event with Cole Queensland leading the field out of two. Jeff Brauer ran in second with Ryan Siegle in third. Tim Johnson, Dustin Nelson and Kevin Hager were three wide for fourth. Siegle and Brauer swapped positions for a couple laps until a caution flew. Queensland continued to lead with Johnson working into second. With fourteen to go the leader slowed quickly coming down the front straight handing the lead to Johnson. Johnson led with Siegle challenging him for the position with Dustin Nelson in third. With seven to go Chris Groth was making the top side work and challenged Siegle for second. The top three were running tight until another caution flew with five to go. On the restart an eight car pileup shuffled the field up. Johnson held off Groth for the win over the final five circuits with Nelson finishing third. Ben Mattick led lap one of the Valley Featherlite WISSOTA Late Model feature with Tony Bloom in second. With two down Bloom moved alongside of Mattick for the lead with Mike Prochnow now into third. Bloom slipped in turn two but kept it moving forward as he fell back through the field. Twenty to go and Prochnow and Mattick were side by side for the elad with Prochnow taking control of the race. Joe Ludemann started eleventh and was inside the top five with eighteen to go. Justin Sass sat in fourth with Nick Herrick working past Troy Brand to take over fifth as a caution flew with thirteen to go. On the restart Prochnow continued to lead with Ludemann into second. Herrick moved into third as he ran the high side of the speedway while the front two ran low. Prochnow stayed low as Herrick worked past Ludemann for second. As Herrick moved into second Prochnow went back up high and kept the distance over Herrick as they raced to the checkers. Ludemann, Sass and Mattick rounded out the top five. Todd Scharkey and Darrin Walch raced hard for the lead over the first two laps of the EZ Fabricating USRA modified feature. Walch took control of the race on the bottom of the speedway early on as the fifth place through tenth place cars jumped to the high side of the speedway. Layne Meyer led the pack up top followed by Nate Wasmund. With twenty one laps to go Meyer flew by Walch and took the lead. A caution with twenty to go saw Meyer leading with Brad waits, Wasmund and Sorensen three wide for fourth. Walch and Scharkey continued to race for the second spot. Waits took fourth as Scharkey took second. Thirteen to go and Waits and Walch were battling back and forth for third as they raced on Scharkeys bumper. Antoher restart with ten to go saw Waits take his mount into the second spot with Scharkey and Walch racing for third. With eight to go Waits moved past Meyer briefly but Meyer regained the spot. With five to go Waits completed the pass as Bob Timm worked into third. Waits had the high groove working to perfection and took home the win, Timm moved past Walch to take over second with Meyer, Scharkey and Walch rounding out the top five.
