Chateau Raceway by: Matthew Grage LANSING, MN (August 15) - The regular season portion of the schedule at Chateau Raceway in Lansing, powered by Miners Outdoor and Recreation of Blooming Prairie, is winding down and the track will crown Track Champions in eight classes next week. Friday nights Amsoil Dirt Track Racing Series action set the table for what should be a very exciting Season Championship night next Friday Night. None of the classes has had their championships decided yet, and while a couple could be decided by drivers just running there heats and features next week there are still those that will not be determined until the checkers fall on there final features. One of the most interesting battles will be in the Power 96 WISSOTA Midwest Modified Class where brothers Kenny and Albert Wytaske of Lansing will battle for the season points Championship. Albert has been leading the points most of the season with Kenny right behind. Entering this weeks show Albert lead Kenny by eight points and increased that to ten when he took home the win in his heat while Kenny managed just a third place finish. It looked like that point total was going to go up in the feature when Albert moved up into the top five and Kenny was struggling back around tenth to get out of traffic. With just two laps to go Kenny had moved up to fifth and Albert was running second when all of a sudden his engine went up in smoke taking his points lead with it. Kenny took home a fourth place finish and with Albert falling all the way back to a nineteenth place finish the points lead changed hands with Kenny taking a five point lead to Championship night next Friday night. Meanwhile in the race for the win it was Austin's Dustin Steinbrink driving the best race of his season as he scored his first feature win. Dustin started inside row three and with a good first lap jumped to fourth. On lap two he took advantage of the two cars ahead of him making contact in there battle for second and went by both of them to move up behind the early leader Bobby Swanson of Kasson. Steinbrink was looking inside and outside on Bobby and finally drew alongside him as they completed lap five. As the two went through lap six Dustin was able to finish off the pass and take the lead. Once in front he set sail and stretched out his lead as the race ran caution free for twenty laps after one bad initial start. AJ Wiste of Adams came home in second ahead of Swanson. The classes other heat winners were Dave Stevens of Albert Lea and Greg Pfeifer JR of Austin. Another driver had what he thought was his first feature win of the season in the Pizza Ranch Pure Stock Class until he got to the tech line. Adam Godeke of Hollandale, who picked up his first win of the season earlier in the night in his heat lead flag to flag for an apparent win in the feature only to have his car fail inspection after the race. Brandon Skalicky of Claremont who ended up tail end earlier in the race came all the way back through the field to cross in second place. However after the disqualification of Adams car he was awarded his fifth feature win of the year. Brandon entered the night tied with Tyler Peterson of Hollandale in the points battle. Peterson ended up being credited with a second place finish and finds himself four points back of Brandon going to the final points night next week. Sammie Fromm of Owatonna scored her first top three feature finish of the year behind the two points leaders. Also picking up aheat win in the class was James Weber of Austin. It was Weber's first win of the year. Cole Queensland of Grand Meadow continues to rack up the feature wins in Triple J Disposal WISSOTA Super Stock action. Cole visited Husqvarna victory lane for the eighth time this year after another nice run in the main event for the class. Ryan Siegle of Grand Meadow grabbed the early lead as Queensland slowly worked his way forward from a row four starting spot. Cole jumped to fourth on the first lap, picked up another spot two laps later and was up to second by lap five. From there he slowly cut into Siegles early lead until he caught and passed him with five laps to go. Ryan held on for second ahead of Chris Klinger of Austin and Wyatt Wolf JR of LaCrosse Wisconsin who was making his first appearance at the track this season. Queensland also grabbed one of the two heat wins with the other going to Jeff Brauer of Rochester. Also racking up the feature wins this year is AJ Zvorak of Blooming Prairie in the Affordable Portables WISSOTA Street Stock class. Friday nights feature was a wild event with early leader Nathan Schumacher of Blooming Prairie being Disqualified about midrace. Schumacher was being challenged for the lead by Dave Stevens of Albert Lea as the two came out of turn four was they locked up side by side. With Dave to the inside the two ended up driving down to the bottom of the track with Stevens car going sideways at the end of the front straightaway. The car slide into the infield and up over the tractor tire that is suppose to protect the traffic light that displays the green, yellow and red displays for the drivers to see. The car went up over the tire and took out the light tree sending parts flying all over. Officials felt Nathan was over aggressive in trying to protect his lead and showed him the black flag, sending him to the pits. Stevens was not able to continue either which handed the lead over to Dan Holland of Brownsdale. He held the lead for four laps until Zvorak reeled him in and went by for the lead and the win. Holland held on for second ahead of Ryan Goergen of Stacyville Iowa. Goergen was one point back of Zvorak in a very tight points race entering the night, but now finds himself five back going to next week. Zvorak also had a heat win on the night giving him a sweep for the third time this year. Mike Kohn of Hollandale saw victory lane for the first time this year as he scored the classes other heat win. Brad Waits of Zumbrota put on another dominating show in the Frenchs Repair and Fabrication USRA Modified class. Brad was making just his third appearance at the track this season. In his previous two stops by Lansing he had not been beat scoring sweeps on both of those occasions. It was the more of the same Friday night as he worked out of row two in his heat to the front in just two laps to go five for five at Chateau. In the Feature he started back in row three and was in the front in just four laps. Jacob Dahle of Morristown took the lead off the outside of the front row on the drop of the green while Waits jumped to fourth on the first lap. He was side by side with Mike Sorensen of Rochester at the end of lap two and solidly in second on lap three. In one lap he closed the gap on Dahle and set sail around him to take the lead. A caution came out on lap seven when Richie Gustin JR of Gillman Iowa, who had a nice run going and was up to third had mechanical problems and stalled on the track. When they restated the twenty four lap event the race stayed green the rest of the way and by the time it was over Waits had almost a half a track lead on the second place car. Steve Arpin of Fort Francis Ontario Canada worked his way from row four up to second over the long stretch of green flag racing. The classes other heat win went to Doug Hillson of Blooming Prairie. Waits just missed the track record for the second time this year. Earlier this year he ran a 15.952 second lap, Friday night he went just a bit faster at 15.940, less than a tenth of a second off the track record of 15.861 set by Mark Noble of Blooming Prairie in August of 2006. The S and S Auto Salvage Hornet Features saw familiar faces in victory lane once again. In Junior Hornet action Michael Wytaske scored his third feature win of the season as he out ran Trae Diaz of Austin. Mike Blowers of Waseca took home his sixth feature win of the season in the Senior Hornets division. Heat winners were Randy Rauen of Austin in Senior action and Garrit Wytaske of Lanisng in the Junior Division. Season Championship Races get underway at 7:30 next Friday Night at Chateau Raceway located just north of Austin in Lansing. That will be followed up by three big specials scheduled for this fall. Labor Day weekend the track will host one of the nights of the "Race for the O'Reilly USMTS Championship" races. Than the first weekend of September will be a two night show as all classes will be on hand for the Second Annual Hornet Buzz Festival. The tracks season will conclude the final weekend of September with the Third Annual Midwest Modified Fall Nationals. That will also be a two night, two complete shows special with all classes schedule to participate as well.
