Banquet Closes out 2008 racing season

SPRING VALLEY, MN (Nov 15) - A capacity crowd packed the Radisson Plaza Hotel in downtown Rochester for the 2008 Deer Creek Speedway racing banquet.

Justin Queensland put on a great slide show for the fans and drivers again this year starting off with a thank you slide show remembering those who are overseas fighting the wars and a tribute to the racing during the 2008 racing season. Racing stayed strong despite the economy for the season at Deer Creek Speedway with 501 different drivers checking into the back gate during the racing season.

A highlight film of the 2008 Featherlite Fall Jamboree was up next presented by Talking Dirt Productions. after which a great meal was served to all of those attending. A huge line of contingency prizes were offered to the drivers on hand with everyone going home with a bag full of goodies courtesy of some really great sponsors.

As each class was brought to the stage to receive their trophies a slide show was presented highlighting the racing in their respective classes. The Pepsi Slingshot drivers were up first to receive their accolades from their racing on the Button Buck Speedway. Dustin Sorensen one the first feature winner of the season and took home the championship trophy and jacket for his efforts in the Pee-Wee division. Lucas Schott had the hot hand in the Junior and Regular division taking home the championship in both divisions.

In the Tim's Repair and Towing WISSOTA Street Stock division AJ Zvorak took home the title in his second season of racing. He nipped Danny Hanson by five points to take home the title with two feature wins and nine top fives. Ryan Goergen, Troy Votha nd Fred Prudoehl rounded out the top five. Karl Hewitt Jr. took home the most improved driver for the season in the division while David Gustafson took home the track title for the hard luck award with his launch over the turn one wall early in the racing season.

The Dirt Doctor Trucking WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds saw Kenny Wytaske win his third straight track championship without taking home a victory in the class. Brother Albert finished second for the season with the most wins as he visited victory lane five times. Brandon Davis, Jared Boumeester and AJ Wiste rounded out the top five for the season. AJ Wiste took home the Most Improved driver award with one win and many strong runs in the top five during the season.

The always tough US Army WISSOTA Super Stock title went to Dustin Nelson with his third title in four years. Nelson had one win to beat Cole Queensland by nine points in the final tally. Ten different winners graced the speedway during the season during fifteen nights of racing Jeff Brauer, Keven Hager and Wyatt Wolfe Jr., rounded out the top five. Wolfe also received the award for the most improved driver in the class for 2008.

Brad Waits won his first title in the EZ Fabricating USRA modified division with five feature wins. Jason Cummins took home two wins on his way to a second place standing with Tim Donlinger, Bob Timm and Mike Sorensen rounding out the top five in the ultra fast class. Others to score victories were Donlinger and Bob Timm. Cummins took home the most improved driver title for the season.

In the Valley Trailer Sales WISSOTA Late Model division Nick Herrick of captured his second straight title without taking home a feature win. Herrick's consistency paid off as he topped Keith Foss who took home five feature wins on the season. Joe Ludemann and Justin Sass both took home their first feature wins during the season with Joe Ludemann taking home the most improved title for the division.

Mick Glenn took home the sportsmanship of the year award for the speedway. Glenn races in the USRA Modified division weekly at the speedway.

IT was another exciting season at the speedway and it was capped off with guest speaker Karl Frederickson of Speedway Illustrated who came in as a guest speaker and entertained the crowd as he talked about the drivers, the speedway in general and the exciting racing action he saw at the speedway during his visit to the speedway during the Fall Jamboree.

Opening weekend is planned for the April 4th. with racing action every Saturday night at the speedway. Tickets will be on sale shortly for all weekly shows and the special events will be following shortly as they are announced. IT was another great season at the speedway under the promotion of the Queensland family and 2009 looks to build on the tradition of the Southern Minnesota Speedplant.
