BORN WINS FIRST CAREER FEATURE

by Bill Nelson

SPRING VALLEY, MN (May 30) - Regular racing action resumed this afternoon with the Pepsi Slingshots hitting the Button Buck Speedway for their racing action  First up was the Junior division with Matthew Schlisman jumping out to the early lead with Lexi Schott moving quickly into the second spot.  On lap two Schott moved low going into three and exited four with the lead.  A late restart allowed Jace Bunne to work under Schlisman to take away the second spot with Schott taking home the win.  JT Wasmund and Jim Chisholm drag raced into one for the PeeWee division with both cars going up and over turn two allowing Jackson Hale to drive under them into the lead.   With half the race complete the leader spun in two bringing out the caution .   On the restart Chisholm moved into the lead until the next lap when his car pushed up in four allowing Hale to take over the lead and Wasmund into the second spot.  They raced this way to the checkers.  The final Slingshot race of the day pulled on the track with Lucas Schott taking the early lead in the Regular division.  Parker Hale moved into second with Cody Gardner pressuring him for second quickly.  As the leaders started to work traffic Hale pressured Schott for the lead but was unable to get around.  A caution with two to go set up a d final dash.  Schott led with Hale and Gardner racing side by side for second.  Gardner took the spot away while Mac Alberts also worked by Hale to take over third.  At the line it was Schott with the win.

Bob Bunne led into corner one of the Dirt Doctor Trucking WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature event making contact with Bryan Hernandez out of two as they both slowed bringing out the caution and ending their nights in the pits.  On the restart Jason Born led lap one, Chris Gilbertson and David Stevens raced for second.  Behind them sat Brandon Davis trying to overtake them.  With fifteen to go Davis moved into third and Dustin Scott took over fourth as they tried to catch up to Stevens now soundly in second.  Born looked steady up front and continued to hit his marks as he ran around the speedway.  Stevens and Davis slowly started to reel in the leader and with five to go the top three were now close.  As they rounded four to take the white flag Born held on with Stevens in second and Davis in third all nose to tail.  Davis drove in low into one and took away the second spot but was unable to mount a serious challenge for the lead allowing Born to take home his first ever career win in any division.

Dan Holland led early in the Jims AutoCare WISSOTA Street Stock division with Fred Prudoehl and Dan Bork were side by side for second.  Bork took over second with Cory Crapser working into third on lap two.  With fourteen laps to go Crapser moved into the lead.  A whale of a race was happening mid pack with a six car battle racing three and four wide for positions. A restart with eleven to go saw Crapser still leading, Holland in second and Bork and Danny Hanson now in a battle for third.  The battle for third became a race for second as they now went three wide for the position with five to go.  Bork took over the second spot with Hanson and Troy Voth left to race for fourth.  Voth took the spot late in the race but nobody had anything for Crapser up front as he cruised to another feature win.

Dave Solum took over the lead exiting turn two on the first lap of the US Army WISSOTA Super Stock.  On lap two Ryan Siegle and Kevin Hager raced side by side for the second spot.    Siegle took over second while further back Jeff Brauer and Cole Queensland started their run forward.  With four completed Brauer and Queensland were side by side for third with Queensland getting the upperhand.  On the next lap Queensland worked under Siegle to take over second.  Solum was still strong up front with fourteen to go as Brauer worked on Siegle now for the third spot.  With ten to go Brauer took over third as Queensland started to work on Solum for the lead.  With four to go Queensland worked under Solum and took the lead with Brauer following through to second.  Queensland and Brauer raced hard to the line with Queensland taking the win, Brauer second and Solum rounding out the top three

The Altenburg Construction WISSOTA Late Model feature event saw Justin Sass jump out fron on lap one with Joe Ludemann in second.  Lance Matthees worked into third on lap three with Nick Herrick and Nick Kramer racing for fourth.  With eighteen to go Sass looked comfortable up front but a little wisp of smoke was developing from under the hood.  Herrick was working on Matthees for third but was unable to accomplish a pass while Keith Foss sat in fifth.  The last part of the race saw most of the field hold steady as Sass cruised home with the win.  Ludemann came home in second with Matthees third.

A wicked crash at the start of the EZ Fabricating USRA Modified feature saw two strong runners taken off on the hook.  As Ted Marrs spun down across the track Dan Bohr got involved and then Mike Sorensen with nowhere to go ran into the side of Bohr rolling Bohr's car over as his own mount drove over the machine and then flipped onto its roof as it landed on the other side of the car.  All of the drivers were okay but unfortunately the cars will require a little work.  On the restart Steve Wetzstein took control of the race.  Brad Waits moved quickly into second  with Layne Meyer close in third.    With four laps completed Meyer moved above Waits to take over second while Jason Cummins challenged Waits for third.    Waits regained the second spot on the next lap but one lap later relinquished teh spot to Meyer on the high side while Wetzstein moved back into second.  With six completed Waits got past Wetzstein again and three laps later moved past Meyer for the lead.  Meyer and Waits for the lead for the next five laps while Wetzstein and Cummins raced for third.  A caution with thirteen to go set up another run by Waits in teh lead.  Meyer in second.  With ten to go Meyer pushed up in four allowing Wetzstein and now Tim Donlinger to work into second and third.  This set up an exciting battle as Wetzstein squeezed between the wall and Waits they raced side by side for three laps each leading by a nose.  With five to go Waits slid up in front of Wetzstein who turned down to move back under Waits they two made contact as Waits came back down the track slightly sending him back up into the wall.  On the restart Wetzstein cruised to the finish line with Donlinger working into second and Cummins in third.  Behind the lead trio Nate Wasmund worked into fourth after starting eighteenth on the field.
