Brauer Tops WISSOTA Super Stocks by Bill Nelson June 13, 2009 Spring Valley MN
SPRING VALLEY, MN (June 13) - The Jim's AutoCare WISSOTA Street Stocks pulled onto the track for their feature event during the Images by Design and US Army night at the speedway. After a complete restart AJ Zvorak jumped out to the early lead with Dan Bork running a close second. At the completion of lap one Cory Crapser moved up to third from his eighth starting spot. Behind the top three they were two and three wide around the track as another caution flew with two laps completed. On the restart Zvorak led with Crapser running a close second. Crapser moved lower on the track and for the next four laps the two ran side by side through the corners with Zvorak leading at the line. Lap six found Crapser taking the lead and slowly extending his lead over the field. Jimmy Patzner worked into fifth and started to pressure Troy Voth for fourth while Voth worked on trying to move around Bork. With seven to go Scott Olson moved past Fred Prudoehl to take over sixth and with five to go started pressuring Patzner for fifth. With three to go Olson took over fifth as the field ran the rest of the way to the checkers. Crapser took home the win and won his heat race. Zvorak finished second with Bork in third the other heat race winner.
The Dirt Doctor Trucking WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds took a complete restart to get their feature event underway. When it did Bryan Hernandez took off into the lead with Jason Born and AJ Wiste racing for second. Dustin Scott sat in fourth while they went three wide for fifth behind him. A caution with three completed came out after heavy contact between Born and Scott as they locked front and rear tires. Another accident occurred in turns three and four at the same time. Under caution Hernandez pulled down and helped push another car off the track as the wreckers worked on the carnage on the speedway. On the restart Hernadez took the lead followed by Wiste. Brandon Davis and Jerry Young were racing for third. A the halfway point Davis moved into third and started pressuring Wiste for second. A restart with eight to go saw Young, Albert Wytaske and Scott pinch together on the back straight bringing out a caution and sending Wytaske to the pits to change a flat. Davis took over second on the start and started to pressure Hernandez immediately for the lead. The two raced for the lead until two to go when Davis finally took over the lead. At the finish it was Davis with the win, Hernandez took home second and Wiste third. Scott, Young and Hernandez took home the heat races earlier.
Dave Solum led the US ARMY WiSSOTA Super Stock feature event with Brian Fetting in second early on. A restart with two completed saw Jeff Brauer pull into the lead with Shawn Huse following along into second. Huse put pressure on Brauer early and two laps later he lost the handle of his mount dropping back five spots and allowing Huse to take the lead. Huse pulled slightly out front with Cole Queensland working into second while Brauer not was racing Fetting for fourth. Ryan Siegle had worked into third and with eight to go Brauer moved past Siegle to take third place. Brauer and Queensland were working different parts of the track and both slowly gained on Huse A caution with four to go found Huse showing some smoke out of the engine compartment as they circled the track. On the restart Huse, Queensland and Brauer were three wide for the lead. Another caution flew for a green white checker finish as Huse slowed in turn three. Queensland led on the restart but as they came to the white Brauer pulled alongside and got a good drive out of two to take home the win, his first of the season at the speedway. Queensland came home second with both him and Brauer taking home the heat wins.
Mike Prochnow race Dennis Hillson off turn four for the lead on lap one of the Altenburg Construction WISSOTA Late Models. With Prochnow in the lead Hillson had his hands full of Keith Foss and Kevin Kuehn. Foss took over second on lap three while Matthees moved under Kuehn for fourth. Matthees then moved under Hillson and took over third with twenty to go. Justin Sass was working his way forward and moved into the top five with fifteen to go. Over the next eight laps Kuehn and Sass raced for the third spot with Sass eventually taking over the spot. Foss and Matthees were evenly paced of the last half of the race with Matthees running low and Foss in the middle of the speedway. Matthees would gain advantage through the corner and on exit but Foss would blow by on the momentum line. Prochnow took home the win while Foss and Matthees rounded out the top three. Matthees and Prochnow took home the heat wins.
Bob Timm and Steve Wetzstein battled the first lap for the lead on the EZ Fabricating USRA Modified feature. Wetzstein took over the lead with Mike Sorensen moving past Timm into second. The first caution flew on lap three with Wetzstein leading on the restart. Another caution flew on lap six for a three car spin out of two. On the restart Wetzstein, Sorensen and Nate Wasmund ran three wide for the lead. Sorensen and Wasmund made contact out of four bringing out another caution. With the cautions out of the way for the event Wetzstein moved out front with Wasmund in second. Jason Cummins worked his way forward on the restart and now sat in third. With fifteen laps remaining Cummins worked under Wasmund for second. Wetzstein was running up high with Cummins along the infield as the two now battled for the next ten laps until Cummins finally got the advantage. Mark Noble worked into the fourth spot after working past Timm with five to go. At the checkers it was Cummins with the win over Wetzstein and Wasmund. heat races were won by Sorensen, Noble and Wetzstein.
Earlier in the day the Pepsi Slingshots hit the Button buck Speedway with Jace Bunne leading wire to wire in the Junior feature. Dustin Sorensen ran in second and Lexi Schott took home third. Jackson Hale also led wire to wire in the PeeWee division while JT Wasmudn held a slight advantage over Jim Chisholm. Lucas Schott led wire to wire on the Regular division of the Pepsi slingshots while Dustin Sorensen and Cody Gardner raced hard for second. Schott game home with the win followed by Sorensen and Gardner.
Racing action resumes next Saturday at three on the Button Buck Speedway and at six pm for the racing action on the Deer Creek Speedway. Next week fans with proof of residency from the following cities will get into the speedway for free. Albert Lea, Hayward, Hollandale, Hartland, Owatonna, Kasson and Waseca
