Zvorak picks up first DCS win of the season

SPRING VALLEY, MN (July 11) - After coming off the successful fourth of July Dart Challenge series race and then Wednesday nights Gopher 50 a very good field of cars and fans showed up for the regular night of racing on Saturday night.

The first feature of the night rolled onto the speedway as the Jims AutoCare WISSOTA Street Stocks took the green flag. AJ Zvorak jumped out to the early lead with Jimmy Patzner and Fred Prudoehl racing for second. Patzner took control of second while Troy Voth moved into the top five. With four completed Donny Ganz started to loop his car but was able to keep it moving but dropped back out of the top five. With eleven to go last place starter Cory Crapser was racing with Danny Hanson for the fifth spot. After clearing Hanson he started to pressure Voth for fourth while Voth was trying to get around Prudoehl for third. Voth and Crapser made contact slowing both cars and allowing Hanson up to fourth. With eight to go Crapser was on the move gain and moved past Hanson for fourth, and before completing the lap he moved past Prudoehl for third. With six to go Crapser moved past Patzner for second while Prudoehl, Hanson and Voth were locked up in a battle for fourth. Hanson took the spot and moved past Patzner with three to go but up front Zvorak was on a rail tonight and took home his first win of the season at The Creek followed by Crapser and Hanson. Hanson and Dan Holland won heat races earlier in the night.

The Dirt Doctor Trucking WISOTA Midwest Modifieds can put on a dandy of a race and tonight was one of those nights with minimal cautions and three four and even a couple attempts at five wide racing through the corners kept the fans on the edge of their seat. Kenny Wytaske jumped out to the early lead with a four wide battle for fourth . Travis Krause sat in second early as Taylor Overbo looked to get past his for the position. Ben Anderson sat in fourth while Jared Boumeester was in fifth. With cars racing all over the racing surface you knew something would happen and it did with only three laps completed the yellow hanky waved. On the restart Wytaske pulled back out front with Anderson and Krause racing for second. Behind them Bryan Hernandez, Boumeester and Brandon Davis were three wide for fourth. Krause took control of second as Boumeester, Anderson and Hernandez were now three wide for third with Brandon Davis sitting and watching the battle for his chance to advance. Another restart with twelve to go saw Wytaske leading, Anderson and Krause battling for second with Anderson holding the slight edge. On the next lap Davis worked past Krause for third as the field continued to run two and three wide. The final caution waved with nine to go. Davis moved into second behind Wytaske with Anderson in third. Davis started to put pressure on the leader with five to and as they exited turn two with four to go he took over the lead. Davis held on for the win over Wytaske and Anderson. Hernandez and AJ Wiste rounded out the top five. Hernandez, Anderson and Boumeester took home heat races.

For the second time this season the DCS Pure Stocks pulled onto the speedway with Jason Newkirk and Ryan Henderson racing for the lead early on. As the lead duo pulled away from the pack Wayne Nelson and James Weber raced for third. Newkirk led until eight to go when Henderson took over the point but on the next lap Newkirk powered by again for the lead. Over the last five laps Dustin Letten and James Connors raced for the fourth position behind Nelson. At the finish it was Newkirk with the win. Newkirk and Henderson won heat races.

The US Army WISSOTA Super Stocks had another douzy tonight with Michael Hofer jumping out to the early lead with Dave Solum in second. With fifteen to go Bob Fort and Cole Queensland were side by side for fifth behind Brian Fetting and Ed Sanders who were side by side for third. A caution with twelve to go negated the big lead that Hofer had built up. ON the restart Fort jumped everyone and moved into second while Ryan Siegle now had worked up into the third spot. A restart with nine to go set up the main battles for the race to the checkers. On the restart Siegle and Hofer were side by side for the lead while Queensland and Fort resumed their earlier battle now for third. Up front Hofer took control of the lead while Queensland and Jeff Brauer worked past Fort for third and fourth. With five to go Queensland worked past Siegle for second just as the Siegle machine poured smoke and slowed into the infield. With four to go Queensland and Hofer were side bys die for the lead, as Hofer's machine pushed Queensland took over the lead with Brauer following into second just as the Hofer machine went up in smoke also. Queensland came home with the win, Brauer in second and Fort in third. Dan Nissalke and Solum rounded out the top five. Queensland and Brauer won the heat races.

A big pileup on the start of the Altenburg Construction WISSOTA Late Models saw Nick Herrick's night ended, Jordan Yaggy, Dennis HIllson, Mike Prochnow and Kevin Kuehn were all involved in the accident. On the restart Kuehn moved into the lead around Dustin Reeh with Prochnow quickly working past Reeh into second. A restart with twenty to go saw Prochnow move into the lead. Doug Herrick was on the move and worked into third behind Kuehn after starting mid pack. Jake Hartung worked into fourth. With fifteen to go Jake Redetzke and Justin Sass started their race long battle for fourth. Herrick worked past Kuehn into the second spot. Hartung quickly worked past Kuehn for the third spot while Sass and Redetzke still battled for fifth. With ten to go Hartung worked past Herrick for the second spot. Sass and Redetzke worked past Kuehn to take over fourth and fifth as the field ran to the checkers. Prochnow came home with the win, Hartung second and Herrick third. Heat races were won by Nick Herrick and Sass.

Layne Meyer jumped out to the early lead of the EZ Fabricating USRA Modified feature with a four wide battle behind him. Tom Paulson and Bobby Swanson soon were wide by side for second with Steve Wetzstein and Brad Waits directly behind them. With two down Swanson settled into second as Paulson now raced with Wetzstein for third. Paulson continued to hold onto the edge as Meyer was slowly pulling away from the field up front. With fourteen to go Swanson, Paulson, Waits and Wetzstein were now in a four car race for the second spot. Paulson held onto second with Waits moving up to third. A caution with twelve to go saw Meyer leading with Wetzstein diving in low and working into second. Next lap Waits moved past Paulson and took over third as Wetzstein and Meyer were now locked into a great battle. Wetzstein worked under Meyer only to have Meyer shoot by on the outside and into the lead. next laps they did the same thing until Meyer was not able to get enough drive off the corner to pull back alongside of Wetzstein who now controlled the field. Jason Cummins showed inside the top five and worked on Paulson for the fourth spot. Waits and Meyers raced side by side for three laps for the second spot until a caution waved setting up the final dash. At the finish it was Wetzstein with the win, Waits and Cummins rounded out the top three followed by Meyer and Paulson. heat races were won by Wetzstein who took the $100 chimney sweep bonus, Swanson and Nate Wasmund.
