Herrick Back on Top of WISSOTA Late Models

SPRING VALLEY, MN (August 22) - Taylor Overbo led out of turn two on the first lap of the Dirt Doctor Trucking WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature event with Travis Krause close in second. With two laps completed Krause moved under Overbo and took over the lead. Jerry Young and Bob Bunne were locked in their own battle for fourth. Aj Wiste sate in third and slowly started to gain ground on Overbo for second With fourteen to go Wiste completed the pass to take over second. A caution with twelve to go bunched the field back up with Krause again jumpi8ng out to the early lead. Wiste in second and Jared Boumeester now working into the top five. With ten to go Troy Brand and Young were side by side for third with Brand holding him off for the spot. Another caution with nine to go saw Krause lead with Wiste and Brand now side by side for second. Wiste kept the spot as Boumeester now raced with Brand for third. Boumeester took the spot as another caution flew with seven to go. Krause jumped out front again while Brandon Davis and Dan Wheeler were racing for sixth on the restart after starting the feature at the tail of the field. Boumeester and Wiste continued to battle side by side for the second spot as Krause continued to lead up front. The top three raced that way to the finish with Krause taking home the win

The DCS Pure Stocks were up next as they ran three wide for the lead early. Dylan Nelson took the lead as Jason Newkirk moved into second. James Connors quickly worked into second on the first restart with Kevin Vogt looking for some racing room. With eight to go Vogt and Connors were side by side for second and gaining on Nelson up front. With six to go Nelson and Vogt were side by side for the lead. Vogt took over the top spot but a caution flew with two to go. On the restart Nelson and Vogt got hooked together out of two but were able to shake it loose after Wayne Bellrichard raced by into the lead. Nelson quickly regained to move into second and started to chase down Bellrichard for the lead. On the last lap Nelson was now side by side for the lead and entering turn three Nelson completed the pass to take home the checkers with Bellrichard coming home second.

Shaun Wehlage led lap one of the US ARMY WISSOTA Super Stock main event with Greg Mattick in second. Cole Queensland and Dave Solum were racing for third. Queensland took third on lap two while Dave Mass moved past Solum for fourth. Jeff Brauer also worked past Solum and was now racing mass for fourth as a caution flew. On the restart Mass, Queensland and Wehlage were three wide for the lead until Wehlage dropped back slightly allowing the other two to decide the lead. Mass gained control two laps later and started to pull out to a small gap as Brauer now worked into third. Queensland quickly made up the ground and started to work on the inside of Mass for the lead. Mass continued to hold off Queensland while Brauer was now battling to keep Chris Groth behind him. As the final checkers flew Mass took home the win followed by Queensland and Brauer.

Nick Herrick led every lap of the Altenburg Construction WISSOTA Late Model feature. Dennis Hillson and Dustin Reeh raced for the second spot behind the lead early on with Justin Sass joining them with two laps down. As Reeh dropped back Doug Herrick joined the two in another three car battle for second. Doug took second as Lance Matthees now joined Sass and Hillson in a three car battle for third. With sixteen to go Matthees took over third as Nick slowly stretch out the lead over his brother in second. Sass raced in fourth while Hillson sat in fifth. A restart with fifteen to go saw Nick jump out into the lead with Matthees working into second. Keith Foss sat behind Doug Herrick in fourth Foss quickly moved past Doug for third as the field circled the track for the remaining laps of the feature. Nick took home his first victory of the season ending an almost two year drought ahead of Matthees and Foss.

A great field of cars were on hand in the EZ fabricating USRA Modifieds tonight and their feature race was awesome. Mike Sorensen led early with Todd Scharkey quickly working into second. Jeff James and Jason Cummins were side by side for third on Scharkey's rear bumper early. James and Cummins split Scharkey on lap fifth with Cummins taking over the second spot. James now was battling with Nate Wasmund for third as a caution flew with nineteen to go. On the restart Sorensen led with Cummins on his rear bumper. Cummins took the lead on the next lap with Wasmund following him and now racing Sorensen for second. Steve Wetzstein was showing a lot of speed after starting fourteenth he took over the fifth spot with fourteen to go. A caution with thirteen to go negated Cummins straight away lead over the field but he did jump back out front on the restart. Wasmund, Wetzstein and Sorensen were three wide behind the lead. Sorensen held on for the second spot as Wasmund now was trying to hold off Bobby Swanson for fourth behind Wetzstein. With five to go Cummins built up a straightway lead over the field. Scharkey started working forward again moving past Swanson for fifth and on then next lap under Wasmund for fourth. Cummins cruised home for the win with Sorensen and Wetzstein rounding out the top five.
