SPRING VALLEY, MN (August 29) - A cool fall night brought to a close the 2009 regular season racing action at Deer Creek Speedway with track champions secured in most classes the closest was the US ARMY WISSOTA Super Stock division. Heading into the night Cole Queensland and Jeff Brauer were two points apart for the track championship.
AJ Zvorak jumped out to the early lead in the Jims AutoCare WISSOTA Street Stock division and with three laps completed the first caution of the event flew. On the restart Dan Bork moved into second with Donny Ganz and Ryan Goergen racing side by side for third. Goergen took the spot on the next lap as Ganz tried to hold back Cory Crapser and Danny Hanson who were side by side for position behind him. Crapser moved alongside of Ganz with ten to go. After clearing Ganz Crapser quickly moved past Goergen for third. On the next laps Hanson followed the same moved and worked into fourth behind Crapser. The top five quickly moved into a single file formation as it looked like they would run that way to the finish but Crapser and Hanson were not done yet. With three to go Crapser worked under Bork for second with Hanson following through with two to go. The checkers waved on the 2009 season for the division with Zvorak taking home the win. Crapser is the 2009 Jims AutoCare WISSOTA Street Stock champion.
Brandon Davis went into the night with the track title in his hands for the Dirt Doctor Trucking WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, but was flying early as Travis Krause led the race from the drop of the green. Jerry Young and David Stevens battle for third early as most of the crowd was watching Davis fly around the top side of the track. Davis moved past Mike Paulson for fourth with three laps completed. With thirteen to go Davis worked past Young for third and on the next laps moved around Shaun Walski for second. With twelve to go Davis started to work on Krause for the lead but bumped into the rear of Krause spinning him and causing a four car pileup with Davis, Krause, AJ Wiste and Young all involved. Young and Wiste were not able to continue. On the restart Krause took off from the lead with Paulson working into second. Jared Boumeester and Walski were side by side for third as another caution flew. On the restart Krause again led but this time the race for second was Paulson, Walski and Boumeester three wide with Boumeester taking the spot. With eleven to go Boumeester put his mount on the outside of Krause and took control of the lead. Krause pressured him hard as Dustin Scott and Jason Born were side by side for fourth. Born took the spot and started to work on Paulson for third. With five to go Paulson moved around Krause for second as Born and Krause raced for third to the finish. Boumeester took home the win with Paulson and Krause rounding out the top three.
Greg Mattick and Kevin Hager paced the field for the US ARMY WISSOTA Super Stock feature event. Michael Hofer quickly sat in third as Hager took control of the race early. Ross Dixon and Cole Queensland were wide by side for fourth and quickly worked past Hofer for third.. With three down Hofer worked back past Queensland for third as Dixon was pressuring Hager for the lead. With sixteen to go Dixon took over the lead with Hofer following through to second. Queensland and Dave Mass were side by side for fourth as they caught Hager and moved past him. Mass took control of third. With ten to go Hofer and Mass started swapping spots each taking their turn at the second spot until Mass took control of the position with eight to go. Queensland worked past Hofer two laps later to take third as Mass started to pressure Dixon for the lead. With three to go the battle up front really heated up. With two to go Mass had the advantage by inches at the line, Dixon took the spot out of two with Mass leading again as the white flew. Dixon stayed behind Mass through one and two and then drove it in really hard into three, slid up in front of Mass and powered out of four. Mass reacted perfectly cut down under Dixon and powered down the front straight away. The two cars briefly touched as they crossed the finish line with Mass winning by about a foot. Queensland took home third with Hofer and Jeff Brauer rounding out the top five. With their finishes Brauer and Queensland both went to victory lane with Mass. Mass received the victory lane photos and Brauer and Queensland were crowned co-track champions for the 2009 racing season. It was a very fitting end to a very hard and cleanly raced season between the two competitors.
A complete restart was needed to get the Altenburg Construction WISSOTA Late Models off the ground with Justin Sass jumping out front early on. Jesse Redetzke, Kelly Anderson and Joe Ludemann were three wide for second with Anderson taking the spot as Keith Foss next came up to race for third. Foss took third away from Redetzke with two completed as another caution flew. Foss jumped into second on the restart with Sass in the lead. Mike Prochnow and Mike Sorensen were side by side for fourth with Lance Matthees working into sixth with nineteen to go. Sass led on another early restart as the field settled down for some green flag racing. Matthees moved into third with twelve to go as another caution waved. Sass again led on the restart and soon caught up to lapped traffic just a couple laps later as Sorensen, Matthees and Redetzke all battled for third. The final restart of the event with five to go saw Matthees work under Foss for second behind Sass. Mike Sorensen and Dustin Reeh rounded out the top five as they ran to the checkers. Keith Foss came home with the track title for the 2009 racing season.
The EZ Fabricating USRA Modifieds needed a complete restart but then ran to the checkers for the rest of the race. Nate Wasmund moved into the lead on lap two after racing Ryan York side by side for the first two laps. Kelly Shryock moved along with Wasmund into the second spot as he worked under York. Doug Hillson and Jay Ihrke sat inside the top five early on. Three laps down and Shryock took over the lead as Hillson worked into third. Further back a tight pack of eight cars raced for position outside the top five. Jason Cummins eventually started coming forward and worked into third after getting around HIllson with fifteen to go. With fourteen to go Brian Shaw, York and Ihrke were three wide for fifth with Shaw taking the spot. With ten to go Cummins was racing Wasmund for second as they ran a half straight behind Shryock up front. With eight to go the top three started to work lap traffic with Cummins working into second with six to go.
