IMCA Hobby Stocks, Northern
SportMods will join Stocks on Saturdays at Jackson
JACKSON, Minn. (Feb. 23) – Two more sanctioned classes join IMCA Sunoco
Stock Cars running Saturday nights at Jackson Speedway this season.
IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks return to weekly programs while Karl Chevrolet
Northern SportMods debut at the ˝-mile dirt oval.
“We felt the SportMods would help our car count,” explained promoter Jon
McCorkell. “With Fairmont Raceway having already added the class, it was
definitely the way to go.”
The decision at Fairmont to bring sanctioned Hobby Stocks back helped make a
similar determination at Jackson.
“We had been sanctioned from 1991-2007 and we were the only track in
Minnesota with IMCA Hobby Stocks for quite a few of those years,” McCorkell
said. “We didn’t drop them because we had anything against IMCA but we were
kind of on an island out here. With Fairmont being sanctioned again, that
isn’t the case any more.”
Jackson and Arlington share the longest tenure of sanctioned Stock Car
tracks in Minnesota, 22 consecutive seasons.
“The Stock Cars have been a great class for us all that time,” McCorkell
said. ”I could sanction them for another 22 years.”
Opening night is scheduled for May 22. Season championship night is set for
Sept. 4.
Upcoming Stock Car specials include the June 12 Dominick Bruns Memorial and
the July 10 Doug Cellan Memorial.
All three IMCA divisions are on Jackson’s Sept. 25 Stock Car Nationals
program.
Stock Car and Hobby Stock points earned at Jackson figure toward Probe
Industries Northern Region standings for the respective divisions.
