SPRING VALLEY, MN (July 3) - A absolutely huge field of cars checked into the pit gate on this Independence Day Weekend with 141 cars including 43 WISSOTA Late Models for the Dart Challenge Series Race.
Pat Doar jumped out the early lead with in the Dart Challenge Series feature with Lance Matthees and Chad Mahder side by side for third behind Jake Hartung in second. After four laps Mahder moved into the second spot. Kyle Peterlin moved past Travis Budisalovich for fifth just as the only caution for the event flew. Doar again charged out to the lead on the restart with Mahder in second. Further back in the field it was three wide racing in the pack as some cars started their charge towards the front. Matthees took third away from Hartung with seven down as the front five started to spread out slightly. Ten down and Budisalovich took fifth away from Hartung while Adam Hensel sat right behind them. Fifteen laps down and now there was a race up front as Mahder moved along side of Doar for the lead. Two laps later Mahder drove around the outside of Doar for the lead. Matthees started to pressure Doar for second on lap twenty as the front three started to encounter lapped traffic. Twenty three laps into the feature and Matthees cleared Doar for second. Mahder struggled to get through the first pack of lapped cars as they ran side by side for positions. Mahder eventually cleared the pack as Matthees closed up on his tail. Thirty two down and Peterlin and Budisalovich raced side by side for fourth. Peterlin took the spot. As the laps wound down Mahder again fought to get through another pack of cars with Matthees again rapidly closing. With four laps left Mahder started to pull away again as he cleared lap traffic. Peterlin moved past Doar with three laps left in the race to take over third. Mahder took home the checkers followed by Matthees and Peterlin. ON the restart Voth and Holland split Hewitt Jr. to take their battle to the front. Danny Hanson worked into fourth on lap eight as he moved Jim Gustafson but most of the fans were watching up front as Voth and Holland were still side by side for the lead. With ten down Hanson worked past Hewitt Jr. for the third spot. A caution with thirteen down saw the field bunch back up and ended the side by side race for the lead. On the restart Hanson drove outside of the leaders to take over the top spot. AJ Zvorak was flying up top and moved around the duo to take over the second spot and start pressuring Hanson for the lead. Another caution flew just as it looked like Zvorak may pass Hanson for the lead. With a green, white checker dash to the finish Hanson made his car wide running different lines every corner keeping Zvorak guessing on his next move. Hanson took home the win followed by Zvorak and Holland. Voth dropped out at the last caution with Gustafson and Hewitt Jr. rounding out the top five.
