SPRING VALLEY, MN (July 24) - We really have some great sponsors/fans at the speedway and they showed up in force tonight. Early in the day Randy and Patti Eastvold from Hanson Tire called and said they were going to add $100 to each winning drivers check.
As the night started we had Mascot night at the speedway. Each school that had their mascot on hand was to be given a $50.00 check. All fans who wore the colors for those schools got in for $5.00. Invites were sent out early in the year and we received responses from 5 schools but only four showed up last night. They were Grand Meadow, Pine Island, Osage Iowa and Stewartville. The crowd was to determine which Mascot was their favorite. The fan favorite mascot would get a $250.00 donation to their school. During the voting some phone calls and messages were passed on from fans/sponsors on hand for the action. These sponsors decided to add some additional money to make it $500.00 to win the vote. But that was not all because as they tried to determine the final winner more calls were made and the totals were ran up. Also each Mascot sold raffle tickets during the night raising another $435.00 for the schools. The raffles were of items donated by the Minnesota Vikings who had their mascot Viktor on hand during the afternoon and evenings. Viktor participated in many of the activities, working the flag stand, helping with the kids club and opening ceremonies.
By the time the event was done each Mascot was able to collect $620.00 to bring back to their respective schools for the nights activities. Additional contributions were made by Randy and Patti Eastvold from Hanson Tire, John and Kim Schraeder from Schraeder Trucking and Land Resource Management to the Mascot night.
As each driver won their respective feature of the night it was announced that the Eastvold's and Hanson Tire raised the winner's check to a $300 bonus instead of the $100 previously announced. Also Greg Hummel made a $200.00 hard charger award for the Late Model driver that advanced the most positions during the feature event.
A very special thanks to everyone who contributed to the nights racing action through the Mascot or racing programs, you continue to show us why we believe we have the greatest dirt fans in the country right here at Deer Creek Speedway.
