Grand River Speedway to wrap up
Season on New Years Day
by Greg Clemons
URICH, Mo (Dec. 18, 2006) - The leaves were green when the GRS Fall Racing
Series began on Sept. 30th. Grand River Speedway, again, managed to hold weekly
races until snow cancelled the Dec.3rd 2006 races. races resumed on the 17th.
Likewise, Dec. was the only problem in 2005. While Christmas racing is a no-go,
a season finale on New Year's Day is an on-going GRS tradition!
The premeire GRS division, the 4 cyl. Hobby Stocks concluded their points run by
racing indoors at the Boone County Fairgrounds, Dec. 10 with 3 drivers in top
points contention, Dakota Singmaster, Matt Marrant and Dave Edwards. The 600cc
Midget division also went with them indoors. The Hobby Stocks returned to Grand
River and raced on Sun, Dec. 17th, a 48 degree day.
Dakota Singmaster, 13, of Ft Scott, Ks claimed the GRS Championship with a third
place finish, indoors. Matt Marrant of Excelsior Springs, Mo. nearly won both
tittles, GRS and the Rod End Supply Missouri Indoor crown but fell 4"" short
behind the indoor "King", Cody Frazon of LaMonte. Frazon won the Mo. title but
was only 10th in GRS points. Dave Edwards' two rollovers earlier in the season ,
seemed to have taken a toll on his Ford Fiesta's performance indoors.. He
claimed 3rd in overall GRS points. Marrant did win at Grand River Sunday as a
consolation for his two Championship misses. GRS Champ, Singmaster, will also
recieve Rookie of the Year honors. He finished 2nd to Marrant, outdoors, this
Sunday and Wade Sherman was 3rd.
Tony Moore, Lebanon, who races with RAMS mini stocks normally, broke out of the
Grand River Hobby Stock class with a 15.41 in time trials. He accepted a trophy
for his "Outlaw" Hobby Stock performance and win but was asked by officials to
compete in the Street Stock Division, officially. 2006 GRS Street Stock Champion
Jerry Schmidt got caught up in lapped traffic and Moore slipped past Schmidt for
Sundays win in that division as well. Curtis Morrison, Raymore, finished 2nd in
points with Mike Scott, Blairstown, taking 3rd with Rookie honors. Neither
driver finished Sundays race. Randi Goins of Salina, Ok. raced to third behind
Schmidt of Independence.
Randy Grimmet of Lathrop won Sunday's Open class feature but had to settle for
2nd in 2006 GRS points. Jeremy McConville, Pleasant Hill. will be crowned the
2006 Open class Champion and is also the division's Rookie of the year! Wes
Briggs of Lebanon took 2nd in Sunday's race and finished in the top ten in the
point standings.
Ten yr old, Devon Huff of Nixa will be the youngest GRS Champion in 600cc Micro
Midgets. Complete 2006 points finishes can be found at
www.grandriverspeedway.net and
two "Run what ya Brung" races, for fun, remain on Dec. _Šî¶nd on New Year's Day!
