LEBANON, Mo. (May 9, 2006) - The United States Modified Touring Series returns
to mid-Missouri for the first time this season. Bolivar, Lebanon I-44 and Monett
speedways will host the 3rd Annual Missouri Nationals this weekend.
“We’re looking at some of the best Modifieds from 12 to 14 states,” track
promoter Randy Mooneyham said. “It’s the best of the best.”
Racing will begin at Bolivar on Friday night, continue to Lebanon on Saturday
night and conclude in Monett on Sunday night. Races will pay $2,000 to win each.
USMTS national points leader Mark Noble will be on hand to try and add more
points to his lead. Also attending will be Kelly Shryock, the six-time defending
USMTS champion, who is running second in points currently. The top five in
points, Jon Tesch, Ryan Ruter and Jason Friesen, will also be racing.
Local drivers Terry Beckham Jr., Jesse Stovall, Jeff Cutshaw and Steve Martin,
among others, will also be racing to defend the home-track honor.
Mooneyham expects between 40 and 50 cars to be at Lebanon on Saturday night with
similar counts at the other tracks.
“Of all the traveling circuits, they have one of the best shows around,”
Mooneyham said. “And fans always appreciate their parade lap. It should be the
best Modified race we’ve seen all season.”
The USMTS show will be the first of two shows during the season for all three
tracks.
Racing at Lebanon will also feature Late Models, Factory Stocks, Bombers and
Pro-4s.
Grandstand adult admission will be $13, tier parking will be $15. Juniors will
be $5 and children 12 and under are always free.
The Wildest Wild Side Ride contest will also attempt to get off the ground.
After the past two races at Lebanon have been rained out, the contest will have
its birth on Saturday. Fans are encouraged to decorate their vehicle with the
winner receiving two free tickets to the races at Lebanon the following week.
The winner will also receive $20 toward the purchase of their beverage of choice
sponsored by Hoffman Race Cars.
