MARS makes second stop to I-44
By Dusty Luthy
LEBANON, MO. (July 12, 2006) - The Mid America Racing Series will make its
second appearance to the Lebanon I-44 Speedway this Saturday night.
MARS drivers Terry Phillips, Bill Frye and Jeff Taylor, among others, will be
driving for the $3,000 to-win top prize.
The touring series drivers will find a tough draw at the speedway in Brad
Looney. Looney has won eight Late Model features. Looney has only been beaten
three times at the track; Phillips won in a regular points show and Frye won the
first MARS appearance.
Other local drivers expected to compete with the series will be Brandon
McCormick, Dusty Johnston, Darrell Mooneyham and Dustin Mooneyham, among others.
The spectacular night of racing will also be capped with a silent auction
benefiting the local Make-A-Wish Foundation. Melissa McCormick, wife of Late
Model driver Brandon McCormick, has spearheaded the auction, securing several
prizes to bid on. Local businesses and individuals have donated items such as a
DVD player, microwave, luggage, large carpet remnants and various gift
certificates. Racing memorabilia can also be bid on. The Make-A-Wish Foundation
grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.
Grandstand adult admission will be $15 and adult tier parking admission will be
$20. Juniors are $5 and children 12 and under are always free. Pit passes will
be $30.
Modifieds, Factory Stocks and Bombers will also be racing. Modifieds will be
racing for a $600 top purse with added money in the other two classes. Factory
Stocks will be racing for $300 and Bombers will race for $200. Late Model
drivers will also have only two more Saturdays before the July 25 World of
Outlaws show at the speedway.
