Lebanon I-44 Speedway 2007 Season At A Glance
By Dusty Luthy
PR Director, I-44 Speedway
LEBANON, MO. (Dec. 9, 2006) - The Lebanon I-44 Speedway is busy planning another
exciting year of racing for the 2007 season.
Back this season will be the speedway’s signature race, the 5th Annual Fall
Shootout Larry Phillips Memorial race. The two-day race, unlike any other at the
track, will be held at the end of September.
New this season will be two Tuesday night races. I-44 Speedway will host its
first UMP Summer Nationals race on June 19. The Summer Nationals is a month-long
racing series that travels throughout the country and draws the best talent in
the nation for the prestigious races. Former Summer Nationals champions include
Billy Moyer, Don O’Neal, Scott Bloomquist and two-time defending champion
Shannon Babb.
Also, track promoter Randy Mooneyham has scheduled a star-studded Mid America
Racing Series race for July 3. NASCAR Nextel Cup driver Kenny Schrader has
already pre-entered for the MARS event, and Mooneyham expects another NASCAR
driver or two to enter as well.
In addition to adding new clay to the high banks of the race track, Mooneyham
has also added a new class to the racing line up. The B-Modified class has been
added, replacing Super Stocks. Mooneyham said the decision was made to help
drivers find a more price-effective way to advance classes.
“It’s a lower budget car with a lower cost motor, so it’s a little more
affordable for drivers,” Mooneyham said.
A-Modifieds and Late Models will also be sanctioned again this year by USRA and
UMP respectively. The first day of the 2007 racing season will begin on March
31. Schedule and rules will be posted soon on
