Kinder Repeats In Midway Modified Madness
by: Ronnie Williams
Lebanon, Mo. (April 8, 2006) - Newton, ILL driver Chad Kinder showed everyone
why he is considered one of the top open-wheeled Modified drivers in the Midwest
as he overcame motor problems Friday Night in Qualifying and grabbing the lead
form leader Randy Zimmerman on lap 21 and grabbed the $6,000 to win 2nd annual
Modified Madness at the Lebanon Midway Speedway.
Kinder, who lost oil pressure in hot laps Friday night thrashed to replace a new
Mullins power plant in his car and just finished as the 1st heat was staged and
ready to rollout in which he won.
After 2 very tough nights of qualifying, the Star-Studded field of 26 rolled off for the 50 lapper with Randy Zimmerman and Danny Crane bringing the field down to the green. The yellow quickly waved as Brian Franz and Johhny Fennewald got together along with Sonny Kimberling. On the restart, Zimmerman got the jump, but a mid pack jam-up caused the yellow.
The restart was single-filed and quickly Zimmerman grabbed the
lead with Crane in tow followed by Kinder, and Joe Bradshaw. On lap 3 the yellow
waved for Brian Franz as his wheel came right off ending his night. The restart
had Zimmerman again go to the front as Kinder moved around Crane to grab second.
The caution waved 3 more times for sheet metal as several drivers were making
moves to the front including 2004 UMP National champion Mike Harrison, Steve
Muilenburg, Sean Williams along with Last Chance winner Scott Weber and Curt
Rackers.
On lap 12 the yellow as Midway point champion Jamie Ragland had a brake rotor fly off ending his night.
On the restart, Kinder applied pressure to Zimmerman as Zimmerman kept in front. The cars had ran several caution laps and officials were thinking about fuel issues as the tight competion had the race taking a different out look. The yellow waved at lap 18 for a 4 car jam-up and officials red flagged it on the backstretch for fuel only for the drivers.
On the restart, the race took a long green run turn as Zimmerman shot out again with Kinder hot on his heels. On lap 21,Kinder made the power move off turn 2 and grabbed the lead as Scott Weber and Curt Rackers were wagging a great battle for the top 5 run coming from deep in the field. Around lap 35,Zimmerman who was running second, pulled to the infield with problems ending his night. With Kinder in the lead, Mike Harrison and Steve Muilenburg were battling for 2nd while Weber and Rackers were coming strong.
Harrison got a late shot at Kinder as the yellow waved for sheetmetal on lap 42 and the battle was on. Harrison tried the lowside in turn 1,but Kinder had his car working good on the middle groove and pulled away as Muilenburg,Weber, Rackers, and Gary Blackburn were battling. On lap 46,Rackers pulled to the infield after a great run from 19th as Kinder had drove away from Harrison. Weber and Muilenburg battled for third with Weber grabbing the spot late as the checkered flew with Kinder,Harrison,Weber,Muilenburg,Blackburn completing the top 5.Jim Roach,Nicholas Littlejohn,Joe Bradshaw,Jason Russell and Matt Johnson completed the top 10 with 12 cars finishing on the lead lap.
In support action,Eric Todd overtook leader Micheal White in a great side by side battle grabbing the lead on lap 14 to grab the WingedSprint Car feature with Johnathon Cornell, clint Todd and Joe Todd Completing the top 5 and Lebanon's Shawn Winfrey grabbed the early lead on Friday night to grab the Bomber feature.
The Regular points battles start on Friday April 14th with racing in 6 classes including the WingedSprints,Modifieds,SuperStocks,FactoryStocks,Bombers and the Fastrak LatesModels along with an Easter Egg hunt for the kids 10 and under at Intermission.
