Hudson Masters Midway Mod Main/Jeffries Grabs 1st Ever Factory
Win
by: Ronnie Williams
LEBANON, Mo. (June 30, 2006) - With 80 race teams checked into the pits Friday
night and a capacity crowd watching, the action at the Lebanon Midway Speedway
provided foreworks on the track as well as the fireworks show during the
intermission break as Energy Companies of Lebanon sponsored the funfilled
evening.
Action started with the Factory Stock feature as Justin Stoufer grabbed the
early lead on the opening lap with Chris Ratterree and Dusty Rhoads following
close behind. The yellow flew as Ratterree and Rhoads made contact in turn 1 as
several cars were involved including last weeks winner Mike Shaddy, Joe
Davenport, Glen dismang and others. On the restart Stoufer who won 6 Bomber
features last season headed the pack with Kyle Jeffries close behind and
newcomer Kevin LaChance running 3rd.On lap 6 the yellow waved as Ratterree's car
came to a stop in turn 1.On the restart, Jeffries applied pressure, but Stoufer
held on.On lap 8,leader Stoufer spun in turn 2 bringing out the yellow and
sending him to the rear of the field giving Jeffries the lead. Back in the pack
some great 3 wide racing including Joe Davenport, Rhoads, Shaddy and newcomer
Jamie Behaunek were battling for spots.Up front Jeffries was able to keep things
calm as he grabbed his 1st victory ever in his career before the capacity crowd
with Davenport holding off challanged from Rhoads to claim 2nd place with Shaddy
recovering from a flat tire and a spin to grab 4th followed by Behaunek.
The Modified feature again provided some of the best racing of the evening. On
the start veteran James Hartman jumped from his pole spot to take the early lead
with Eric Hudson close behind. The top 4 including leader Hartman, Hudson
defending champion Jamie Ragland and point leader Tony Jackson Jr. were swapping
spots back and forth. The yellow waved on lap 5 as Jack Jones spun in turn 2 and
Brian Millsap ended up in the turn 4 wall with mechanical problems. On the
restart Hartman had Ragland going to the top side while Jackson moved into 3rd
around Hudson as veteran Wayne Graybeal was coming quickly to join the top 4
runners. On lap 10,Jackson moved around Ragland to grab 2nd place and applied
pressure to Hartman. By lap 15,Graybeal tagged to the front running 4 and joined
the chase for position. On lap 16 with Jackson and leader Hartman fighting for
the lead, Hudson found the top groove to his liking along with Ragland. It was
on lap 18 that Hudson made the top groove work and went into the lead as Hartman
and Jackson battled on the bottom. As the checkered flew,Hudson grabbed his 2nd
victory of the season followed closely by Hartman, Ragland, Jackson and a fast
moving Jack Jones at the stripe.
"The track announced tonight that a 20 car plus field would pay 600 to win next
week and that a sponosr (C&S Towing of Lebanon) would pay an extra 200 to win
with a 20 car field or better next week, so maybe winning tonight and starting
11th next week isn't smart, but to win a feature with the racing that close is
fun. "quoted winner Hudson. "Hartman had the low groove dialed-in and when
Jackson tried to get it, Hartman forgot about me and Ragland running the
top-side. This is 2 weeks in arow that 4 cars have battled for the win and it
makes it fun for us and the crowd gets a race to remember."
The Winged Sprint Car feature found point leader Clint Todd bring the field down
to the start with Steve Lawrence close behind. On lap 2,Lawrence looped it in
turn 2 bringing out the yellow. On the restart, Clint Todd jumped ahead, but
defending champion Eric Todd started to apply pressure to little brother. After
a 4 lap battle bumper to bumper, Eric Todd shot to the bottom after a small
bobble by leader Clint Todd on lap 7 to take the top spot while last weeks
winner Joe Todd was charging from 11th to get into the top 3 while rookie Kyle
Bellm and Scott Wedelstadt were racing tight. On lap 15,Jeremy Hazel spun while
running 6th bringing out the final yellow. On the restart, Joe Todd drove
underneath Clint to grab the runner-up spot, but Eric Todd was on a rail pulling
away while the race for 3rd was tight as Wedelstadt moved into 3rd while Mike
Williams was charging hard. As the checkered flew, Eric Todd grabbed the win
followed by Joe todd, Wedelstadt, Clint todd and Williams at the stripe.
The Bombers provided another close night of racing as Tyler Brown jumped into
the early lead with Mike Piercey close behind.Leader Brown looped it in turn 4
on lap 2 spining to the infield as Piercey grabbed the top spot with points
runner-up Jack Hamer following close behind as Chad Cromer and Missy Shaw were
racing for position. While Piercey was out in fornt the racing behind was tight
as Shaw finally pulled away on lap 10 to grab 3rd place leaving Chad
Cromer,billy Waters,Wayne Coffman and Keith Cheever to battle.Up front,Piercey
pulled away from repeated challanges from Hamer to grab his second win of the
season as Hamer,Micheal Jackson(who came from nowhere),Shaw and Joe Francis
grabbed the top 5.THe real fireworks happened as Cromer and a tight pack of cars
battled for position as Cromer's car flippped 3 times and barrell-rolled coming
for the checkered.Cromer was able to walk away from the incident.
The SuperStock feature was all point leader Ben Newell's as he took advantage of
his front row starting spot and lead all 15 laps with rookie Travis Hill
grabbing the runner-up spot as Donnie Gennings spun on the last lap allow JC
Newell to grab 3rd followed by Gennings and Randy Hill.
In Fastrak LateModel Action,Jason Otto grabbed the opening lead unti lap 3 when
track point leader Ron Myers moved to the bottom in turn 4 to take control and
never looked back as last weeks winner tony Jackson Jr battled Otto all race
long and grabbed the runner-up spot followed by Otto,Wesley Briggs and Jeremey
Kelley at the finish.
Next week features a special kid's night as Mid-Missouri bank will sponsor the
kids 10 and under coin scramble at intermission along with the regular points
program for all 6 classes.
In an announced statement a 20 car or more Modified field(20 to start) will pay
the winner $800 as next week(July 7th) the Modifieds must be either on the
American Racer G60 KK704 tire or the Hoosier IMCA stamped G60-No Hoosier A 40's
