Webster Grabs Midway Enduro Win/Hill Tops Superstock Feature
by: Ronnie Williams
LEBANON, MO. (July 28, 2006) - Despite heavy Thursday Night and Friday Morning
rains, another action packed night headlined the Lebanon Midway Speedway with 114
cars in the pits and new faces grabbing victories.
The 100 lap Enduro paying $1,000 to the winner found 27 cars lined-up 3 wide and a wet track as after the regular race show, the water truck sprayed the surface giving the drivers another challange ahead.
As they took the green,Bob Anthony grabbed te opening lead with Brandon Waters a close 2nd.On lap 2,Steve Shaw grabed the top spot until lap 7 when he got tangled-up in traffic giving Bryan Webster the lead.Webster found the top side fastest on the wet surface.Webster held the top spot until lap 19 when Jed Rogers used lapped traffic and a different racing groove to take the lead and was running away.Rodgers who started 13th on the grid had lapped the entire field by lap 28.Keeping out of trouble,Rodgers waved through traffic, tires and everythingelse started to slow-up on lap 36 as runner-up Webster unlapped himslf on lap 38 and became only the 2nd car on the lead lap.
Dale Waters,Reggie Jackson,Brandon Waters,Joe Francis and others started to pick-up the pace and began climbing through the standings.Joe Francis had the crowd pointing as his hood flew-up around lap 55 and drove the rest of the distance that away.Leader Rodgers was slowing as car problems had him nursing his Buick as Webster began a charge to the front. On lap 72,Webster took over the lead as Rodgers pulled-in 1 lap later.Dale Waters and Reggie Jackson began the charge up the scoring tower and were being shown in the money spots as Webster was keeping a very steady pace.On lap 85,Waters unlapped himself and began his march to the front.
Webster had a close call on lap 91 as he was caught in a small fender bender with sheet metal rubbing the front right tire.Waters was charging hard but the rearend started smoking around lap 96 as only 2 cars were on the lead lap.Jackson was 1 lap down and Brandon Waters had just gotten 1 of his laps back.As the checkered flew,Webster grabbed the win with Dale Waters also on the lead lap recovering from being 2 laps down.Reggie Jackson finished across the line 1 lap down and Brandon Waters was 4th also 1 lap down.Joe Francis was 5th 1 lap down as Mike Marler of Rolla followed.
In Superstock action rookie Travis Hill jumped from his front row starting
spot to take the early lead with JC Newell in hot pursiut along with Bill
Joiner.Hill kept his car on the top groove as Donnie Gennings began his charge
forward.Hill who had lost a feature 2 weeks ago had learned alot as he kept a
smooth groove on the top side as Newell,Gennings and point leader Ben Newell
were battling.a late race caution bunched the field-up as Gennings was on Hill's
back bumper on the restart, but Hill kept the top line working strong and grabbed
his 1st win ever followed closely by Gennings,JC Newell,Ben Newell and Joiner at
the finish.
FactoryStock feature time sw 23 cars take the green flag as point leader James
Ellis grab the opening lead with Chuck Pederson,Stan Booth and Chris Ratterree
battling hard.On lap 5,Pederson grabbed the lead with Booth following. On lap 6,a
4 car collision involving Jay Flinn,Glen Dismang,Joe Davenport and newcomer Ed
Wilson brought out the yellow with Flinn's night ending early. On the
restart,Booth made strong move to get around Pederson as Chuck did a complete
360 and fell back to 3rd place as Booth and Chris Ratterree baattled up front. On
lap 8,Jason Otto who had a top 5 run going spun in turn 3 and lost 2 laps before
getting back up to power. On lap 11,Pederson made a smooth move around both
Ratterree and Booth to regain the top spot and claim his 1st Midway feature win
with Booth, last weeks winner Bobby Ratterree, point leader James Ellis and Mike
Shaddy up from starting 13th at the finish.
In Modified action,Justin Neuman grabbed the early lead with Shawn Williams close behind.Point contender Jamie Ragland lost a rear spring and limped on the backstretch bringing out the yellow. On the restart,Williams grabbed the lead with point leader Tony Jackson Jr and Brian Schutt following close behind.Jackson grabbed the lead on lap 4 and never looked back as the race for 2nd place was tight as last weeks winner Eric Hudson was hooking on the highside to move up quickly in the pack. With Jackson puuling away,Williams,Schutt and Neuman were battling hard as Hudson moved into the top 5 on lap 9.Jackson would drive away with the victory as Williams withstood a late charge from Hudson to take 2nd place followed by Hudson,Schutt and Neuman at the stripe.Jackson who had blew the motor in hotlaps pulled the backup car out to run the event.
The Bomber feature went green, white checkered as 22 cars took as Billy Waters grabbed the opening lead with Chad Cromer close behind. On lap 4,Mike Piercey and Joe Francis were coming quickly as Piercey grabbed the lead from Waters with Francis following close behind as last weeks winner Shawn Winfrey was charging from his 11th starting spot.
As the race stayed green, piercey would grab the win followed by Francis, early
leader Waters,Winfrey, and Chad Cromer at the finish.
The WingedSprint Car feature had Scott Wedelstadt grab the opening lead and
started to pull away as Eric Todd moved into 2nd place and gave chase. On lap 7
after Eric overtook leader Wedelstadt, the yellow waved which put Wedelstadt back
in front. On the restart,Wedelstadt drove away as Eric Todd then began his charge
to the front as point leader and last weeks winner Clint Todd had worked up to
the front runners and set his sights on the lead duo.During the long green
run,it was on lap 11 in which Eric took over the top spot from Wedelstadt as
Clint todd was coming strong. On lap 18,Clint drove hard on the bottom of leader
and brother Eric as the duo touched with Clint grabbing the lead and withstood a
late charge from Eric in grabbing the win followed by early leader
Wedelstadt,Steve Lawrence and rookie Kyle Bellm at the stripe.
Next week the speedway will host double points night along with the challange
to the FactoryStocks as 20 or more cars to start the feature will pay 400 to the
winner and the modified Challange is still there as 20 or more to start will pay
600 to win along with 100 to start.
