Schutt Grabs LebanonMidway Modified Main/White Grabs 1st Ever
Midway Feature
by: Ronnie Williams
LEBANON, MO. (Aug. 4, 2006) - Over 80 race temas were greeted with cooler
temps and a smooth racing surface along with the tracks final double points
event of the season as 2 new winners graced there 1st ever Midway feature wins.
The SuperStock feature would see points runner-up Donnie Gennings jump from his
outside frnt row starting spot and head off points leader Ben Newell going into
turn 1 with veteran JC Newell following closely. After a couple of
yellows,Gennings and Newell were running side by side with Gennings getting the
lead coming out of turn 2 with Newell trying the highside each time.Last weeks
winner Travis Hill had quietly worked his way to get into the battle for the top
3 late in the race as Gennnigs and Ben Newell battled up front with JC Newell
looking inside of Ben several times for position. On lap 13,Gennings would see
Newell make a strong move to the outside going for the lead, but Gennings kept it
strong and held off the late race surge to grab his 5th win of the season with
Ben Newell,Travis Hill,JC Newell, and rookie Steve Reese completing the top 5.
The Bomber feature provided and close finish but also had the points race
turning around.
On the start,Chad Cromer jumped out to the early lead with point leader Jack
Hamer,Wayne Coffman and Shawn Winfrey following closely.Tyler Brown was making
the top groove work and began his charge to the front pack.Cromer, looking to
turn his season around was running strong on the bottom of the track had Winfrey
work into second place as Brown was working the top side and into the top 3.On
lap 3 the yellow flew bunching the field-up and last weeks winner Mike Piercy
headed to the pits after charging from 11th place. On the restart, point leader
Jack Hamer moved right behind Winfrey as this battle waged on.Tyler Brown moved
into 3rd just as Winfrey grabbed the lead from Cromer and Brown moved forward to
challange Winfrey as Billy Waters and Joe Francis were in the hunt.During the
long green run,Winfrey and Brown were running side by side as Waters and Hamer
along with Cromer were swapping spots. On lap 12,Brown made the power move up on
the top side and then the yellow flew giving Winfrey back the lead.On the
restart, brown jumped back to the top groove, but Winfrey who was nursing a
smoking racecar stayed on the bottom lane.As the lead duo took the white
flag, brown again tried to make the upper groove work, but Winfrey held on to grab
the feature with Brown,Waters,Hamer and early leader Cromer at the stripe as 13
of the 19 starters finished on the lead lap.
The Modified feature had Donnie Fellers and former LateModel standout Brian
Schutt bring the field down to the start as Eric Hudson and Sean Williams went 3
wide.Hudson and Fellers got together bringout an original restart with both
drivers going to the back.Schutt and Sean Williams brought the field down again
on the start as Schutt shot to the early lead with veteran Wayne Graybeal
followed closely with Williams looking on the outside with John Fellers,JD Kelly
battling as Donnie Fellers and Eric Hudson were coming to the front
quickly.Point leader and last weeks winner Tony Jackson Jr was quietly moving
-up and began moving into the top 5.Up front Schutt was long gone as the yellow
waved on lap 9 for a single car spin.On the restart,Schutt again shot to the
lead as Graybeal,Williams and now Jackson battled for 2nd place as Hudson and
Fellers were coming fast along with newcomer Dirk White.Graybeal and Jackson
battled hard until lap 15 when Jackson moved to the outside taking the runner-up
spot and set his sights on leader Schutt with Sean Williams,Kelly,Hudson, fellers
and White fighting for position.
Out front Schutt would not be denied as Graybeals night ended with a flat right
rear tire.As Schutt pulled away even more,a new face would grace the winners
circle as Schutt took the checkered flag followed by Jackson,Williams,Hudson and
Donnie Fellers.
Another great field of FactoryStocks took the green with Chad Smith grabbing the
early lead as Kyle Jeffries,Troy White,Bobby Ratterree were battling. After a
couple of yellows, action resumed as Smith and Jeffries went side by side as then
Troy White made it a 3 car battle. On lap 4,White shot from 3rd to 1st as Bobby
Ratterree followed in contention. Some tough and tight racing back in the pack
involving several drivers found a few yellow flags waving but up front White the
defending LOS Track champion and veteran Bobby Ratterree were close and tight. On
lap 11,Jeffries made a great save coming down the frontstretch heading for the
wall and lost several spots.Up front Ratterree tried several times to move
around White, but White had to much coming off the corners as Jeffries was moving
back to the front pack. When the checkered flew,White would grab his 1st ever
Midway feature win followed closely by Ratterree, jeffries,Joe Davenport and
Dylan Keeper. The last 9 Factory Features have produced 9 different winners.
Defending Sprint Car Champion Eric Todd showed his last season's form as Eric
jumped from his front row starting spot and ranaway from the field in grabbing
the 20 lap feature event as the race ran caution free.Joe Todd, point leader and
last weeks winner Clint Todd,Rookie Kyle Bellm(who had just put a new motor in
before the races)and Rookie Jeremy Hazel completed the top 5.
LateModel point leader Ron Myers grabbed the lead early and never looked back in
grabbing the Fastrak lateModel feature as Rustin Miller,Tony Jackson Jr,Jason
Otto and Wesley Briggs completed the top 5.
Next week the Show-Me Racin Series LateModels will invade the Midway in a
