Sprint Car Saturday at I-70 Speedway
by: Chuck Stowe

ODESSA, MO (April 21, 2007) - If you are a sprint car fan and you were not at the Dirt Track at I-70 Speedway Saturday night, you missed it. The first of six appearances of the sprint cars (no wings allowed) on Saturday nights, gave the dirt track fans a real fix of three and four wide racing action and the asphalt fans a reason to venture over to the dirt side on Saturdays.

Eight area sprint car drivers checked in for the no rules, run what you brung, event and all of them left with smiles on their faces and comments including, “we can’t wait to come back”, “what a great job on preparing the track”, “this is a perfect track for this type of racing” and “I hope you guys will continue to run the sprints and let us drivers help you build this class”.

“Well I can tell you this, if you guys will continue to put on a show like you did tonight, help us, at I-70, build a good field of these sprint cars, we will become your new home for sprint car racing in the Kansas City area”, was the reply form promoter Brad McDonald.

Also on the track Saturday night, getting some hot laps and track time in before their up coming event, were several of the area drivers who compete with the MOLS (Midwest Outlaw Lighting Sprints) series.

Two eight lap sprint car heats offered the fans great racing action and had the crowd on their feet and wanting more. And, they only had to wait until the A feature. By coordinating the Saturday evening events between the asphalt track and the dirt track, the sprints where lining up for their 20 lap A Feature, just as the late model feature on the asphalt track ended. Dirt and asphalt fans came together and were treated to dirt track thrills and spills during the 20 lap sprint car feature. The first sprint car A Feature went into the record books at the new I-70 Speedway Dirt Track and the finishing order looked like this. 1. 96c, Jim Cameron 2. 24, Allen Billing 3. 44, Phil Heavelow 4. 40, Zack Golden 5. 12, Rayn Rector 6. 88, Chad Tye and 7. 82, Michael Brown. #92, Stephon Brown was unable to start the feature due to a flip in his heat race, thankfully, Stephon was not injured and told track officials that he would have his car ready for the next schedule sprint event.
