Stoval Dominates Late Model Feature at Lebanon I-44 Speedway
by: Andrew McNaughton
LEBANON, MO (April 28) - It was another exciting night of racing at the high
banks of the Lebanon I-44 Speedway in what is already turning out to be a highly
competitive 2007 season.
In the 25-lap Late Model feature race, Kimberling City driver Jesse Stoval
dominated the race from beginning to end, and was maintaining a sizable lead
when the first of two caution flags came out. This gave Larry Jones, Dustin
Mooneyham, and Rob Starkey opportunities to catch Stoval on the restarts, but he
was just too fast for them.
"You never want to see [cautions], but I just drove the same way I drove all
race, and didn't see anyone", Stoval said about the caution periods. Last week's
winner and 2006 track champion Brad Looney was never much of a factor in the
race.
The A-Modified feature began with an accident between last week's winner, Justin
Neuman, and Jason Meadors. David Hendrix, last year's Factory Stock champion,
dominated the early part of the 20 lap feature, before blowing a tire that took
him out of the race. Jeff Cutshaw from Cross Timbers capitalized on Hendrix's
misfortunes, and captured the checkered flag.
"I had some trouble last week, so it worked out in my favor tonight,", Cutshaw
said about the race, which saw Steve Picou finish 2nd, and Steve Martin
finishing 3rd.
Monett driver Jordan Holloway was victorious in the Factory Stock feature, able
to stay ahead of Lake Mooneyham from Republic. Mooneyham, who won last week's
feature, had mechanical problems with his ride midway through the race. Derrick
Brown from Stoutland finished 2nd, ahead of Crocker resident Bud Pursley.
"The car was really fast", Holloway said, after the 20 lap race.
The Bombers once again put on a terrific show, with Brian Miller making the
winning pass on Joe Francis coming out of turn 4 on the final lap of the 12 lap
feature.
"I just drove around him," Miller said, when asked about how he managed to pull
off the thrilling victory.
In other action Saturday night, Trent Harrison held off Jason Otto, who finished
a close second, to capture the victory in the B-Modified 12 lap feature.
"The track was good, the car was good," said Harrison about his victory. He also
thanked A-Modified driver Justin Neuman for helping him set up his team. Shawn
Nations, who won last week's feature, finished 3rd.
The Rookie 12-lap feature was cut short following a scary accident involving the
front runners on lap 5. Michael Warnow was on the inside of Adam Brown as both
drivers raced into turn 3 on the backstretch when they got together. Warnow's
car wound up upside down, while Brown's car barrel rolled up to 8 times. Brown
was taken to Saint John's Hospital in Lebanon after sustaining minor injuries to
his rib cage, while Warnow was able to walk away from the crash. This followed a
first lap crash on the front stretch in which Lee Quick's car flipped once
before landing on its side. Josh Lewis from Stoutland was awarded the victory
after the race was called due to the excessive debris on the track. Only three
Pro 4's raced Saturday night, with Pat Schudy from Springfield finishing well
ahead of Dustin Bass and Robert Hamblin.
The MARS Outlaw Late Models visit the Lebanon I-44 Speedway next week, and track
owner Randy Mooneyham expects to see around 30 Late Model cars racing.
A-Modified, Factory Stock, Bombers and B-Modified will also race. Gates open at
430PM; Hot Laps at 6:45PM; and Racing starts at 7:30PM at the high banks of the
Lebanon I-44 Speedway, off interstate exit 135.
