Close races in Late Model, Bomber Classes at Lebanon I-44 Speedway

LEBANON, MO (May12) - Race fans at the Lebanon I-44 Speedway saw Chris Smyser fight hard to hold off the hard charging Larry Jones in the closing laps of the Late Model feature, while it was another four-way battle for the lead in the 12-lap Bomber feature on a beautiful Saturday night in the Ozarks.

Smyser lead early, but had to contend with a late push by Lebanon driver Larry Jones. Jones was nose to tail with Lancaster for much of the second half of the 20-lap feature, but raced the leader clean.

"I knew somebody was back there racing the heck out of me," Smyser said. "I tried to use the traffic where I could..... and luckily we got out of here with a thousand bucks."

Smyser, who hails from Lancaster, was able to pass through lapped traffic that proved more difficult for Jones, who fell behind Smyser in the closing laps. 60-year-old Darrell Mooneyham finished third, ahead of Burl Woods and Patrick Johnson.

The Bombers put on another exciting show, in what has been the most competitive class all season long at the Lebanon I-44 Speedway. The top four finishers all contended for the victory in the 12-lap feature that Lynchburg driver Landon Johnson won, ahead of Joe Francis, last week's feature winner Dusty Rhoades, and Shawn Winfrey, all from Lebanon.

"I got the car working a lot better. It's been taking some time, " Johnson said, before thanking his mother in his post-race interview.

The A-Modified feature race was dominated by David Hendrix, but the Buckhorn driver admitted that he was motivated by fear Saturday night at the I-44 Speedway.

"I was just driving scared, hoping they wouldn't catch me," Hendrix said.

Steve Picou finished second, ahead of last week's winner, Tony Jackson, Jr., and 2006 I-44 Speedway Modified Points Champion Justin Neuman.

In other racing action Saturday night, Factory Stock feature winner Chris Jackson was able to pass early race leader Jordan Holloway on lap 8, and lead the rest of the way. Jackson attributed his success to his Outlaw racing engine. Meanwhile, Josh Woody dominated the B-Modified feature, but a late caution gave second and third place finishers Tyler Brown and Derrick Peterson a shot at the checkered flag that Woody did not want to see happen. And in the Rookie 12-lap feature, Rich Reynolds was able to keep his distance ahead of runner-up Adam Brown in order to secure the victory.

This Saturday night, the Lebanon I-44 Speedway hosts their regular weekly show, featuring Late Model, Modified, Factory Stock, B-Mod, Bomber, and Rookies. This week's 100 Lap Enduro race has been postponed, and will be rescheduled for later in the season. Gates open at 5PM; Hot Laps at 6:45PM; and Racing starts at 7:30PM at the high banks of the Lebanon I-44 Speedway, off interstate exit 135.
