Outlaw Lighting Sprint Invade I-70 Dirt Track
ODESSA, MO (May12) The Midwest Outlaw Lighting Sprint made their first
appearance of the season at the new Dirt Track at I-70 Speedway. “You guys
really have a great track”, was the comment from eventual Feature Winner, Phil
Heavelow. “We have been out a couple of times on practice nights and the track
was OK but you guys have really got this new track in great shape”, concluded
Heavelow. Bob Douglas, MOLS Director added, “the track was great, it is a
perfect track for the Lighting Sprints, we can’t wait for two day show here in a
couple of weeks”.
The 20 Lap feature for the Midwest Outlaw Lighting Sprints went caution free
with veteran open wheel driver Phil Heavelow, #44, winning from his second row
starting position. Following Heavelow across the finish line was #46, Dusty
Murray, #11, Duane Marusarz, #19, Lenny “Doc” Heffernon, and #18, John Eaton.
#4, Beau Heavelow, #25 Don Graves and #9S, Chris Schofield were unable to make
the call for the feature.
You might call Saturday nights race a warm up for the MOLS cars as they return
in two weeks, for a two day weekend at the I-70 track. On Saturday night May
26th, the MOLS cars will share the racing card with the SMRS Midget Series. Then
on Sunday night the MOLS cars, SMRS Midgets and the I-70 Speedway Sprint Cars
will take to the new 3/8th mile, D shaped clay oval, to complete two straight
nights of open wheel racing at the I-70 Speedway Dirt Track.
The next event at the I-70 Speedway Dirt Track will be “Five Dollar Friday”. A
complete show of IMCA Modifieds, Stock Cars, SportMods and Sport Compacts will
compete on Friday May 18th, and, as always on Friday nights, all general
admission tickets are only $5.00. Pit Gates open at 5:00, Admission Gates open
at 6:00 with Hot Laps at 7:30 and Racing begins at 8:15
Next Saturday night, May 19th, the Dirt Track at I-70 Speedway will present the
I-70 Speedway Sprint Cars. This “run what you brung” class has only one run, no
wings. Hot Laps will begin at 8:00 with Heat racing at 9:00.
