Eric Todd Squeaks AMSOIL Sprint Challenge
LEBANON, MO. (July 20) - Clear skies and a smooth surface produced some close
racing in all classes and defending AMSOIL Sprint challange winner Eric Todd
faced some tough challanges as the Sprint feature awaited $1,000 to the winner.
The highest paying Sprint event for the 305 Sprint cars took the green flag with
Matt Tatro jumping out to the opening lead with Bradley Roberts clsoe behind
along with Doug Rose. With Tatro setting a fast pace.On lap 3,the features only
caution waved as Keith Breedlove spun in turn 4.On the restart Tatro pulled away
as point leader JP Compton moved around both Roberts and Rose to grab 2nd place
on lap 5 and set his sights on leader Tatro as Eric Todd was moving through the
field from his 7th starting spot.Tatro and Compton then battle wheel to wheel
until Compton moved to the top spot on lap 7 as Eric Todd had caught the lead
duo and placed his car into 2nd place on lap 8.Leader Compton and Eric Todd then
began a classic battle swapping the top spot back and forth as defending track
champion Clint Todd started moving through the field from his 10th starting
spot.On lap 16,Eric Todd caught leader Compton making a small bobble as he shot
to the lead only to find Compton charge right back as Clint Todd,Bradley Roberts
and early leader Tatro were in a tight battle for 3rd.On lap 18,Todd pulled away
from the battle with Compton in grabbing the $1,000 payday with Compton,Clint
Todd,,Roberts and Tatro completing the top 5.
The FactoryStock new winners list just keeps growing as Donnie Miller brought
the field to the green with Ben Solberg right behind him.The yellow would waved
as point leader Dylan Keepper,Bobby Ratterree and Bob Gustin were all involved
in a hard crash in turn 2.Ratterree and Gustin would continue, but Keeppers night
ended early.on the restart,Miller a school principal in Houston was trying to
overcome a tough season as he and Solberg were battling hard.Solberg was
delovping rear wheel problems as Sundance Keepper charged around to grab 2nd
place and closed in on Miller as early season point leader Bob Gustin was
rebounding from the opening lap problem and and caught Keepper to battle for 2nd
place while Miller was keeping his car on a smooth drive in the middle of the
track.A late caution alowed Gustin to close up on leader Miller, but Miller would
keep out of trouble to grab the win with Gustin,Sundance Keepper,Glen Dismang
and Greg Breedlove completing the top 5.
The A-Modified feature would also see a new winner as Steve Martin grabbed the
lead on the opening lap and would never look back from the pack while a tight
battle developed between Steve Muilenburg, point leader Jamie Ragland and Eric
Hudson along with Don Luna. While Martin pulled away from the filed it was former
winners Muilenburg,Ragland, Hudson and Luna to battle for the runner-up spots
before crossing the stripe in that order.
The SuperStock feature had extra money in the entire purse from AMSOIL as Mark
Davis grabbed the early lead only to have problems sending him to the pits on
lap 2.Bill Joiner then grabbed the lead as defending champion Ben Newell battled
and took the top spot on lap 4 as Larry Pruitt was charging from his 7th
starting spot and battle both Bill and Bennie Joiner for the 2nd place spot.On
lap 9,contact between those 3 sent all to the rear as last weeks winner JC
Newell found himself behind leader Ben Newell. On the restart,JC tried Ben
several laps, but lap 13 would prove lucky for JC as Ben got the car sideways in
turn 2 while battling for the lead bringing out the yellow and sending him to
the rear. From there JC held off a late charge from Larry Pruitt to record his
2nd win of the season with Pruitt,Travis Hill,Clinton Betts and Ben Newell at
the stripe.
The Bomber feature was a wild affair as Wayne Coffman grabbed the opening lead
with Jack Hamer following close. With Coffman looking for his 1st win,Joe
Francis,Dusty Rhoads and Jamie Barker were charging through the field as Rhoads
grabbed the lead on lap 5 and left the race to everyone for 2nd place in
grabbing his 2nd win of the season.Francis,Barker, early leader Coffman and Keith
Cheever completed the top 5 over the tough field.
The B-Mods were brought down to the green with point leader Jason Otto jumping
to the lead with Jack Lancaster pulling along side of him as the duo touched as
Lancaster had a flat tire.On the restart,Otto jumped to the lead as TR Phillips
closed in quickly along with Troy Young,On lap 3,Phillips spun moving Troy young
into 2nd place as former winner Steve Muilenburg came charging from 11th
starting spot.On lap 4,leader Otto had atire go down sending him to the pits as
Troy young grabbed the lead as Colt Cheevers and Earl Muilenburg battled for 3rd
place. On lap 12,Steve Muilenburg pulled to the inside of Young and grabbed the
lead in recording his 2nd win of the season followed by Young,a hard charging
Jody Saultz,Jack Lancaster and Ed Wilson at the finish.
The Ozark Mountain Midgets made there debut with Barry Lamb and Dustin Arnall
swapping the top spot with Lamb grabbing the win.
