Willie Takes $1,000.00 to win at I-70
by: Chuck Stowe
ODESSA, MO (Sept 23) – The Dirt Track at I-70 Speedway provided race fans who
love asphalt and dirt with a great conclusion to “World Cup Weekend” 2007. 27
Modified drivers checked in at the Dirt Track to challenge for the $1,000.00 win
Modified special. “I want to thank all the Modified drivers and our race fans
for hanging in there”, commented I-70 owner Brad McDonald. “Our ASALM North -
South Shootout ran longer than anticipated so, our Dirt Track show got off to a
late start”. “The drivers did an excellent job of working with us to run an
exciting but quick Modified show”, concluded McDonald.
Through four Heat Races and a Pole Dash, the 27 car field was set for a 25 lap
Shootout. Steven Glenn driving his #26ss won the Pole Dash and called heads on
the coin toss to determine a straight up Start for the first four rows, or an
inverted. Heads it was and the first 4 rows started straight up. Following Glenn
in the Pole Dash was the 42 of Gene Claxton, #51 Tim Setzer, the 68 of Dean
Willie, # 171 Donnie Danner, the 58 of Terry Van Trump, # 96c Jim Cameron and
the #57A Randy Answorth.
With 26 Modifieds taking the green flag, early racing was tough and resulted
with several restarts. After a few early lap jitters, everyone settled in to
some of the beat Modified racing any race fan could ask for. Dean Willie,
piloting the #68 crossed the finish line first, picking up the $1,000.00 win.
Chasing Willie for second was the 171 of Donnie Danner. Following Danner was #51
Tim Setzer, the 42 of gene Claxton, #8m James McMillian, the 58 of Terry Van
Trump, #Q37 Allison Quick, the 20t of Mike Tanner, #17 Rod Cordon, the 4j Jake
Richards, #47 Holt Johnston, the 09 of Josh Stephens, #44g Randy Grimmett, the
96c of Jim Cameron, #57a Randy Answorth, the 8b Andy Benedict, #99 Billy
Roberts, the 73 of Truman Asher, #9i Chris Wunder, the 25 of Mike Bush, # 26ss
Steven Glenn, the 19 of P.J. Conger, #12 Jeremiah Saling, the 12cx of Travis
Johnson, #15 Tommy McCoy, and the 77w of Coy Wray. Due to mechanical problems
the 97.3 of Scott Traylor was unable to make the call for the feature event.
The staff at I-70 Speedway will take a well deserved week off next week but Dirt
Track action will return in October. The “October Series will begin on Saturday
night October 6th and will feature the I-70 Sprint Cars each Saturday night of
the month. In addition to the Sprint Cars the Dirt Track will host different
