Leslie Essary Takes the Top Spot at the Season Opener By: Clarissa Essary POCOLA, OK (April 12) - Saturday April 12, the Race Brothers Show-Me Racin’ Series kicked off the 2008 season in Pocola, OK at Tri-State Speedway. Despite the frigid temperatures many racing fans came to watch the Race Brothers SMRS boys put on an exciting and action packed show. Thirty late models made the long drive to come home with the first race of the season under their belt. In the end it was the 5e of Leslie Essary who took the win. The night started with four qualifying heats. The 33 of Rick Lebow took the top spot in heat one. Heat two was won by the 55 of Ken Essary. Leslie Essary in the 5e won heat three and the fourth and final heat of the night was won by the 56 of Conner Ward. Fourteen cars were left to battle their way through the B main for the four remaining positions in the A main. The 25 of Shannon Phillips took the win followed by the 15 of Kevin Henson, the 59 of Jimmy Bellamy, and the 98 of Ken Patterson. The two point provisional positions went to the 77 of Roger Wilson and the 28b of Wesley Briggs, using the 2007 final point standings. Twenty-two cars lined up for the A main. The cars made their traditional parade lap around the track, and then the green flew. The 59 of Bellamy, the 115 of Shane Essary and the 3 of Rick Wallis got together in turns three and four bringing out the first caution of the night. One lap had not been completed so the cars lined back up for an original restart. The green flew again and the 12 of Glen Yarbrough jumped out to the lead. The 04 of Jeremy Kelley was closing in on Yarbrough in the second place. The 55 of Ken Essary and the 5e of Leslie Essary moved up five positions in the first two laps of the twenty-five lap main event. On lap five Yarbrough began reaching lap traffic allowing the 04 of Jeremy Kelley to be right behind him again. Lap seven brought out the second caution of the night for the 28b of Wesley Briggs who spun in turn three. On the restart the 26 of Burl Woods took off strong and was weaving his way through the pack towards the top spots. On lap thirteen the 04 of Jeremy Kelley took the lead but the 5e of Leslie Essary was coming up fast. Everyone was fighting hard for every position, drivers were going three wide for the sixth position. The 59 spun in turn three bringing out the third and final caution of the night. The 5e had taken over the lead. The cars lined up for a single file restart. The 21 of Jordan Holloway, the 6 7/8 of Sundance Keeper, and the 15 of Kevin Henson were battling hard for the fifteenth position when the white flag fell. The top five were; the 5e of Leslie Essary, the 04 of Jeremy Kelley, the 55 of Ken Essary, the 56 of Conner Ward, and the 12 of Glen Yarbrough. The Show-Me series would like to welcome the rookies; Chris Morelock in the 25 who finished tenth, Sundance Keeper in the 6 7/8 who finished seventeenth , Jimmy Bellamy in the 59 who finished eighteenth, Todd McIntrye in the 81, and Jeff Johnson in the 16. We would also like to welcome the 115 of Shane Essary and say welcome back to Glen Yarbrough, Jeremy Wallace, Burl Woods and Jordan Holloway. The Race Brothers Show-Me Racin Series will be in action on Saturday
April 19, at Springfield Raceway in Springfield, MO. Come out and root on
your favorite driver. Pit Gates open at 3:00 and Grandstands open at 5:00.
Hot laps will begin at 6:15 and racing will start at 7:00. Adult admission
will cost $15.00 and kids 6-12 are $5.00 for the stands and pit passes will
