Looney outruns Wells at Lebanon I-44 By: Ronnie Williams LEBANON, MO (May 17) - Racing action was fast and furious Sat Night at the high-banks of the Lebanon I-44 Speedway with fan appreciation night as Adults in the Grandstands watched the racing action for only $5. The UMP LateModel feature brought Brandon McCormick and Justin Wells on the front row,however McCormick's car had an issue with the throttle wanting to stick taking the pole setter out of the action. As the green waved,opening night winner Tony Jackson Jr jumped to the lead with Wells close behind.On lap 3,Wells shot to the topside and grabbed control with Jackson using the bottom of the track while point leader Brad Looney who started 8th was moving through the field followed by defending champion Dustin Mooneyham and Larry Jones.On lap 7,Looney moved to the lowside and overtook Wells for the lead only to have Wells grab it back on lap 10.The lead duo of Wells and Looney pulled away while Jackson,Mooneyham and 12th starting Rusty Dukes battled for third place honors.On lap 18,the leaders began to hit lapped traffic and the racing got tight as Looney pulled to the inside of Wells as they ran side by side with Wells using the topside groove out of turn 4 to gather the lead back.On lap 23,Looney made one last move down low and overtook Wells to record his third straight UMP LateModel win with Wells,Jackson Jr,Mooneyham and Dukes completing the top 5. In USRA Modified action all eyes were on point leader Terry Beckham to see if he could make it 4 in a row,however fuel pick-up problems sent him to the pits on the pace laps.Bobby Williams brought the field down to the green and jumped out in front with Jason Meadors close behind with Justin Neuman following.The caution waved on lap 4 for Ted Ballinger as his early strong run ended with problemsOn the restart,Williams kept the middle groove working strong with Meadors close behind while Neuman was making a run to challange for second place and moved around Meadors on lap 7.A quick yellow flew for sheetmetal and on the restart Neuman tried a slide job to go underneath leader Williams,but Williams withstood the challange as Neuman spun in turn 2.On the restart,Meadors mounted a challange along with Mookie Cunningham,but Williams withstod all pressure to grab his first ever USRA Modified feature with Meadors,Cunning ham Neuman and Doug Crider following. The B-Mod feature would see Jason Otto bring the field to the green as a tight pack for second place posistion included Derrick Peterson,Paul Williams and point leader Josh Woody.On lap 3,Woody broke free and applied pressure to a fast moving Otto as the lead dup pulled away from the field.On lap 5,Woody moved to the topside and shot around Otto coming out of turn 4 to grab the lead.Otto applied pressure several times on restarts,but it was Woody pulling away late in the race to claim his 4th win of the season followed by Otto,Derrick Peterson,a fast moving Brandon Pister and JC Morton. The Bombers really provided some tight racing as point leader Joe Francis jumped to the opening lead with Dennis Jones and Kevin Morrison following.Lebanon driver Shawn Winfrey who was looking for his third straight win came charging from his 8th starting spot and moved on lap 2 to battle with Jones.Behind the lead trio was a group battling for fourth place including Russell Ireland,Mike Willoughby,Mike Sloan,Tim Jones and Josh Lewis.On lap 4,Winfrey broke free from Dennis Jones and began his chase on leader Francis.On lap 8,Winfrey took over the top spot only to see the red flag fly for an incident in turn 4 involving Ireland and Sloan allowing Francis to get the top spot back.On the restart,Francis and Winfrey went to battling with Francis staying on the bottom of the track and Winfrey moving to the middle groove.As the leaders pulled away,good racing for 4th on back were keeping the crowd watching two great battles.On the final lap up front,Winfrey pulled up high in turn 2 and pulled even with Francis as the duo were dead even on the backstretch.Coming for the checkered,Winfrey made the top groove stick and pulled off the win with Francis,Dennis Jones,Tim Jones and Mike Willoughby completing the top 5. In FactoryStock action Derek Brown jumped to the early lead and never looked back in recording his first win of the season with Lonnie Henderson,Matt Brookshire,Mark Bourey, and Mark Smith following. Jay Reynolds grabbed the opening lead and never looked back in recording the 305 Winged SprintCar feature with JP Compton,Scott Wedelstadt,Dustin Arnall and Galvin Galbreath following. Action continues next Sat night in the Central Bank Racing Series Action with UMP LateModels,USRA Modifieds,B-Mods,Bombers,FactoryStocks and Rookies as the Speedway continues the Silver Anniversary season as Grandstand Admission for adults is $5 with kids 12 and under Free while Tier admission is normal price with adults $12.
